Rumor: Things Not Left Unsaid - Flyers Rumors And Media Mentions 4: Say, Say, Say What You Want But Don’t Play Games With My Attention

This can't be understated. Is there anyone that matters that has been on the club since he has shown up that he has not publicly ragged? Last week he burned Ersson by saying that he'd never become a number one goalie in the NHL. This is the same player that Tortorella has overused and driven through the ice multiple seasons.
On one hand, if he stays for the duration of the season, he guarantees the Flyers more losses and a better draft position. OTOH, I want this clown out of town before he ruins more players. 97-103-32 and continuing to head south.
41.8% win rate. This team's position in the standings is inflated by their ability to get loser points and OT/SO wins. In reality, they are actually worse than the standings indicate, which is actually ideal but the team insists that having a coach that squeezes extra points out of a roster like blood from a stone is beneficial; draft position be damned.

Nevermind that this coach beefs with half his roster and is disliked across the league. When you put all the factors of his coaching style together, he's pretty clearly the worst coaching choice for a rebuild you possibly make. But the Flyers actively chose him, their "independent consultant" search crunched the numbers and the numbers said Torts was the man for the job.

your forgetting Torts end of season heater were he gets wins vs. other clubs resting their roster for the POs.

putting us in the 12-14th OA pick range yet again ensuring another nobody gets signed

He’s going to be around for a long time.

There is a segment of the fanbase, and more importantly alumni that drool over the intangibles - and effort above talent shit he preaches.

Whether it’s as a coach, or a senior advisor - he’s going to be a saboteur for a while yet.

If you determined this by going to something like Spotrac’s projected cap space, their numbers are wrong. There’s a high 7 figure cap spike coming for 2026-27 that their figure doesn’t include. A ton of teams will have huge swaths of space.
Good to know. The Flyers a little bit of a unique team in that you can drop a 1C into the team and its future and it changes a lot. Maybe that appeals to someone like McDavid, but I agree that it likely does not. I’m sure he would love to sign in Florida, but then he won’t be paid. My rationale is earnings + winnings is may be pretty good in Philly

My point is that the Flyers’ plan may be to sign McDavid. It’s on brand and it makes sense if they are clearing all this space and don’t intend to sign anyone until next summer. They need top end talent and a center. If the Flyers hit this draft and have a top end pick next, sign Sullivan to coach, does McDavid turn down a ridiculous contract? 18 a year. I don’t see most teams offering that. I think the Flyers could be one of the best teams to be able to offer that kind of money. Or I’m wrong and they want to offer 15 to Marner. Just speculation at this point obviously.

The Flyers' plan is almost certainly irrelevant. Edmonton could give $11M to Bouchard and still only have about $6M more in commitments for 26-27 than the Flyers, and they'll be availing themselves of the same cap spike, plus they have the benefits of being the home team, all the friendships he's developed, the life he and his S/O have built there, there's plenty of opportunity for them to remake the roster around McDavid at $17-20, Drai at $14, Hyman at $5.5, RNH at $5.1, Bouchard at $11, and Nurse at $9.25. At that point, literally everyone is off their books except Janmark for one year, and they'd have RFA rights on Podkolzin. They can completely restructure the rest of their roster at that point, and basically offer McDrai the opportunity to dictate what that roster looks like.

I'd be shocked if he even makes it to UFA. If he does, then it's a question of what he values, because I can guarantee you every team is going to at least put a call in.

If Edmonton pays McDavid say $120M over 8 years. That’s $15M per year. You’d have to pay over $17M per year to get to that number over 7 years. Otherwise he’d be taking a nice pay cut to go elsewhere & if that’s the case I seriously doubt the Flyers are going to be a situation he’s willing to take less on to come to.

They don’t have major tax benefits like Florida, Texas, Nevada, etc. They’re also not a contender & McDavid has zero connection to here otherwise.

We are severely discounting his recent experience with the Flyers.

What's unique about that?
Their cap space and potential offer with projected success. Trade TK instead of signing him for example changes the above scenario. They should have traded him imo but he’s a 1st line wing. As is Michkov. I don’t see a lot of top 10 teams being able to offer him money without first shedding cap. I think the Flyers after this draft are going to be one of the better options if he wanted to leave Edm.
