Rumor: Things Not Left Unsaid 3 - Flyers Rumors and Media Mentions: Never Ending Circles

Clubs do not trade away good centers or deal DCs that yield them. The best way to get a good center is to draft one. The club needs to get in draft position to do that. The only way to get to that point is to finish as low as possible in the standings. That should be the primary aim of the Flyers for the rest of the season.
Unfortunately their HC is operating in a way that is diametrically opposed to this aim. Tortorellla is after wins so that he can preserve what he sees as his reputation as a winner. He has been here for going on three seasons with limited, if any, improvement of the product on the ice. So much for his desired legacy. Someone needs to call him in and let him know what is in the best interests of the organization matter more than his. If he can't live with that, then he needs to step aside.
i do not believe it is just Torts that wants the wins

I've seen everything I need to see from Briere. He ain't it.

He might be intelligent, but no GM is going to have power here. Sure as hell not one that had his community college paid for by the organization, and was hired by the men long employed by the club.

He never had the power to come in to really change things.

There were reports at the time of his hiring that other candidates turned down the Flyers somewhere along the hiring process.

Briere doesn’t run shit, it’s always been a cabal. After Hextall, they will never go back to someone that doesn’t cater to the Flyer family.

Fully agree with everything. I've been impressed with his improvement and I like the physicality he brings.

But the GM point blank said he is not shopping him. The buck stops there for me.
What's he supposed to say? Fire sale!

I ignore everything until the week before the TDL.

Nothing is going to happen until after the 4 Nations, for one thing, teams need to accumulate cap room, for another, teams want to know where they stand, both in terms of PO chances and injuries between now and March. Teams like Edmonton, with their window starting to close, will pay what it takes if they need to fill a hole.

Things are already happening, so this is a weird stance. You're just deciding to ignore whatever makes the Flyers look bad.

They didn't interview anyone else for the GM job. Supposedly they did hire other candidates for the PoHo job and they ended up withdrawing for consideration—which lends credence to the idea that Jones is basically a PR guy and no one's actually in charge.

The same process they've been following since 2013? Nah. Don't think that needs trust anymore.
Waiting for Gonowhere

DB is all in on Torts coaching hes said multiple times they arent interested in bottoming out to draft talent..

they WANT to build a roster full of nobodys who will grind...
I strongly believe that the Flyers FO approach their player decisions through the lens of needing to create the underdog narrative.

No, there isn't. A few minor moves, that's about it. Like every season.

Barzal popped up in my mind a couple of months ago as a not-entirely-bad option when letting go of any hope of a full rebuild.
It would probably have to be Frost, a 1st and another asset.

ASF flat out said that inheriting Tortorella & possibly Briere was a turn off for a lot of the people they interviewed for the President job. They did those interviews first & that was another point to them that reinforced not even bothering with a GM interview process. Briere was going to be the favorite & tough to beat regardless but he did make it seem like they were going to at least doing an interview process before that.

ASF is in that Meltzer boat where they’re so in the Flyers bubble they’ll put stuff out there not even realizing how bad it might make the organization sound. So you can’t even down play it as them just being negative for interaction.

The Flyers have many minor moves they can make which help set up the future a bit. You're just excusing their eternal inaction.
Your minor moves are just moving the deck chairs around.
Their pipeline are full of "minor moves" who'll arrive the next few years.
But none are going to move the needle.

What they need is to add another top six center and a top 4 D-man.
??? - Jett, Frost, Cates, Berglund
Tippett, Couts, Foerster, Farabee, Barkey
TK, Michkov, Brink, ???

York - Sanheim
Andrae - Bonk - ???
McDonald - Drysdale
Gill, Zamula

Can you get these players without a top ten pick?
Wash - Protas (24) #91, Strome FA 5x5
CAR - Aho #35, Necas #12
DAL - Johnston #23, Hintz #49
TB - Cirelli #72, Point #79
VAN - JT Miller #15, T 1st, 3rd
Vegas, Hertl #17
Det - Larkin #15
StL - Thomas #20
Mon - Suzuki #13
NYR - Trochek #64, FA

True or false: Quantity is important for draft success as it maximizes chances of hitting

When you think the inside of your ass has a fantastic interior designer, and comfortable pillows, why would you ever pull your head out of it?

He gave a direct and absolute response to a question asked.

He stated he is not shopping Risto, just like last year he stated to the media that he told Laughton he would not move him unless an overpayment.

I personally think he's being 100% honest. They're afraid of what the defense will look like without Risto so they will keep him. I also expect them to re-sign him.
