I'm still skeptical of that "reported" deal.

Similar players (Toffoli, Goodrow, Wennberg, etc) were dealt for a 2nd and 3rd or a 1st with a 3rd going the other way.
Top six forwards can get you a 1st but not a lot more.

And St Louis was only offering a 1st for Sanheim with a salary dump (Krug).
So it wasn't like their GM was eager to overpay.

I think Laughton has similar value than a year ago, to get a 1st you'd have to send back a late 2nd or 3rd and/or take on a salary dump. More likely to garner a 2nd plus another asset.
Laughton and Flyers 2nd for 1st and 3rd and take a bad forward contract (few million)?

Risto will probably be similar to Walker, 1st with a salary dump and 5th going the other way.
Of course you're skeptical, it doesn't fit your narrative. I'm sure the insiders just made it up for the hell of it

 I think I've heard this one before. They'll set the price at something ridiculous then shrug their shoulders when they don't get it.

We talk about overrating our prospects on this board. Maybe the Flyers overvalue their intangibley grinders
They probably want multiple first round picks for that stud forward Scott Laughton

Am I completely making this up or was deadhead an Economics professor? Those poor kids, if so.

If Briere could flip Bonk+ for Jiricek, he'd almost start to redeem himself for that terrible pick.

Experience tells me when something sounds too good to be true, it usually isn't.

Given Laughton was on the trade block in 2021, didn't sound like the FO was that in love - unless you think Briere/Torts suddenly became infatuated!

Then why this?

If Briere had really been offered a 1st and 2nd, you think he'd have hesitated?

My suspicion was there may have been a 1st and 2nd mentioned, but as part of a larger deal that included Laughton as well as combinations of Sanheim, Hayes and salary dumps.

"If the deal eventually gets finalized, it sounds like it will be much smaller than originally discussed. Names like Sanheim, Tony DeAngelo and Scott Laughton were previously mentioned, but now it could just be Hayes."

Laughton, Sanheim, Deangelo , In addition to Hayes, are all players who could be on move from Flyers.

He's still pretty much the same player he's been, a marginal 3C, a solid 4C, better at LW, a top PK player. Now with only one year left on his deal after this season. He should have similar trade value, which I expect is something on the order of a 2026 2nd and 2025 3rd. To get a 1st, Flyers would have to send an asset back and/or take a salary dump, similar to the Walker trade.

Stop assuming things to be true based on a single data point to try and prove your own personal narrative.

"A player was rumoured to be on the trade block?! The conclusion must be that the team doesn't like them very much!"

There could be a hundred reasons a player is on the trade block, it isn't proof of some grand overarching worldview you imagined.
If Briere had really been offered a 1st and 2nd, you think he'd have hesitated?
Briere specially stated he wasn't going to deal Laughton for "fair value", so yes. We know he was only taking an "overpayment" to move Laughton.
My suspicion was there may have been a 1st and 2nd mentioned, but as part of a larger deal that included Laughton as well as combinations of Sanheim, Hayes and salary dumps.
This is entirely speculation on your part. Speculation you pass off as closer to fact than it really is, likely because you don't like the consequences of admitting the report was factual (aka it makes the Flyers look bad).

This is a completely different front office please stop bringing up anything that happened under Fletcher, but also their Laughton thoughts carried over from 2021. The dots never connect. We're just saying shit.
You do realize that was deliberate, don't you?
