Askarov would have been a great gamble, but they blew that one.

Jiricek for a team that won’t have enough high end draft picks, is a no brainer imo anyway. That’s a gamble you take.

These idiots won’t do it. They would be smart as hell to eject from Drysdale if possible.

That was me, and to be fair, if someone overrates one prospect that doesn't mean other people aren't regularly overrating other prospects. How many of our guys that we had high hopes for fizzled over the years? All of them. While there are certainly fingers to be pointed within the organization whether it is coaching at the NHL level, development or scouting at other levels, etc., there are also fingers to be pointed at the players themselves for simply not being as good as we thought they were (i.e., overrated).

Saying Luchanko and Michkov is in the cards for next season doesn't sound like to me that he's saying Luchanko is a superstar, he's saying it's a possiblity and given Luchanko's purported 2-way game he would make the perfect match for Michkov, a guy that is not a 2-way player. And even if he is saying Luchanko is going to win the Calder next year and be a HOFer...that doesn't mean that this board doesn't regularly overrate garbage prospects. If you look back I am sure you will see countless posts in trade threads about how much our shitty prospects are worth and how little other team's prospects are worth or people penciling in guys to roles they'll never make.
Are the Flyers bad at drafting, developing or both?

Because they have been drafting at the top half of the draft for thr majority of the last 15 years and the results according to you have been bad.

So which is it?

If there's a way to get Jiricek for a reasonable price, you do it. It was just a year ago we were talking about him being one of the, if not the, best defensive prospects in the league.

Don't see how he's a worse risk than "full speed ahead" is

If we can flip Drysdale for Jiricek, that would be fantastic.

I’m not sure I can recall an asset’s value ever cratering in half a season’s worth of games as much as Drysdale’s. Objectively, they valued him as equal to a ~top 10 pick. After 39 games, I’d be floored if they could flip Drysdale for more than a 3rd-4th rounder. They won’t because of those optics. They’ll let his value simply evaporate.

As for Jiricek, whom he won’t fetch, I always thought he was more of a modern defensive defenseman, with occasional flash. That’s worth exploring — oh, look, plausible fit at a time after draft day! — but cost dependent. It’s easy to see some other team having an outlier opinion.
