Frank had a pretty good layout in discussing his trade target board, as someone who has been just as skeptical as we have about this supposed rebuild. His top targets on the Flyers are Farabee, Frost, and Brink. In short, all the forwards they were counting on to take the steps needed in lieu of a burning down, and they’re not going to get value (he sees Farabee as a potential 35-goal guy). Now they’re gonna have a bigger gap between declining veterans and young players at a time they were expecting to push forward.
Who is they? Briere took over in basically the summer of 2023.
He made his initial moves, now he's probably in evaluation mode
"should they stay or should they go, if they go it will be trouble, if they stay it will be double"

I think he's happy with how Tippett - Couts - TK look, SSS, but Tippett - Frost - TK were solid last season. Two fast risk taking wings with a smart defensive center between them.

Jett - Michkov is probably in the cards next season, but who is the LW?

After that, up in the air.

Farabee - he's a proven scorer, but his frame never filled out, so he's more finesse than the guy who can go into corners and win board battles, nor is he a speed merchant - so who does he fit with?

Frost - not talented enough to dominate play, doesn't use his speed consistently to drive play, skilled enough to be an opportunistic play maker and scorer but won't carry a line

Brink - has gotten stronger and faster, but struggles in traffic, can be bumped off the puck, is quick and agile but not at an elite level, middle six scoring forward but not sure much more

Foerster - he's a little slower than last season, maybe have bulked up too quickly. PF with a plus shot, but with below average speed has to improve, not regress, in that regard. Playing out of position on the left side. Still has upside left.

Cates - top speed went from average to well above average this season, but he hasn't been able to utilize it effectively so far. Was a top defensive center two years ago, really impactful forechecking LW when he returned healthy the second half of last season. Valuable on the PK, but what is his role going forward?

The two needs up front are another young top 6 caliber center and LW that would be a good fit for a Jett - Michkov line to grow with them. Given Michkov is an elite play maker, and Jett perfect to be his CYA partner (allowing Michkov to take more risks), the ideal LW would be a skillful mucker, who can win board battles, retrieve pucks but also pot his share of goals. The player Lindblom might have become if cancer didn't ruin his career.

Jett was matched with Michkov in camp.
If they keep Couts with TK, Jett - Michkov is an obvious pairing.
It makes sense both in terms of style of play and age.

Given that Jett made the team out of camp, and is off to a fine start in the OHL, it's unlikely he won't make the team next season. He's already got a NHL body, which should fill out further, NHL speed, just needs more experience.

They is the Flyers.

You forget that the only new person brought in at the front office level was Keith Jones

(Re: Frost I believe)
That was me, and to be fair, if someone overrates one prospect that doesn't mean other people aren't regularly overrating other prospects. How many of our guys that we had high hopes for fizzled over the years? All of them. While there are certainly fingers to be pointed within the organization whether it is coaching at the NHL level, development or scouting at other levels, etc., there are also fingers to be pointed at the players themselves for simply not being as good as we thought they were (i.e., overrated).

Saying Luchanko and Michkov is in the cards for next season doesn't sound like to me that he's saying Luchanko is a superstar, he's saying it's a possiblity and given Luchanko's purported 2-way game he would make the perfect match for Michkov, a guy that is not a 2-way player. And even if he is saying Luchanko is going to win the Calder next year and be a HOFer...that doesn't mean that this board doesn't regularly overrate garbage prospects. If you look back I am sure you will see countless posts in trade threads about how much our shitty prospects are worth and how little other team's prospects are worth or people penciling in guys to roles they'll never make.

I don't think Jett is going to win the Calder

The reason he's a good fit for Michkov is elite offensive players need the puck, where "shooters" need a play maker who can get them the puck in the right spot to score. Michkov's value is his ability to draw the defense to him and find the open teammate, not wait for a center to get him the puck.

You don't want three skilled players on the Michkov line, b/c there's only one puck. Rather, you'd want complementary players, Jett as a center who can play off the puck is a good fit, a LW who can muck and retrieve pucks and shoot would fill out such a line.

I hope they trade another one of their prime aged forwards with actual talent and upside. Just purge the skill right out of the lineup. And when they do, it’s going to be a shit return and one of those blossoms elsewhere situations. Go Danny, go!

You know what a Luchanko + Michkov combo needs next to them? Someone to teach them how to play the right way. A true veteran who can lead them on the ice and off. A guy who won't let them be out late on the road. One who can show them how to order room service. Someone who can play up in the lineup in a pinch. A disciplined man of principle.

This is why they had to extend Hathaway before the Points started inflating the contract. I now see the vision. Roll Tide.

(Re: Frost I believe)

Me, for years: I think Frost's ceiling is 2C. He should become a middle six forward.

Frost: (Becomes Exactly That Thing)

DFF, DH: OVERRATE BY YOU!?

I am hardly unique in that assessment. I mean hell, who actually really insisted he would be more than that? He's become exactly what was predicted, and that's somehow overrating? The Flyers being wrong about him, mangling his development, and handling him terribly doesn't make us wrong, it makes them wrong. Which isn't exactly a unique outcome. They're wrong about players we correctly evaluate a lot. A LOT, lot. Enough that I can say the reason they're bad is that internet dorks commonly are better at evaluating players than they are.

Except Hathaway is a RW.
And Michkov prefers the right side.

Bring back Giroux!
