I remember reading a story about a minor league baseball team that did some sort of "Anti-Steroid" night or something like that where they gave away free urine sample cups.

Edit: After looking it up it was the Tampa Bay Ray's minor league affiliate Vero Beach Devil Ray's, and it was a lead-up to the Olympics, and also at a time there was major steroid issues in the MLB.

Maybe not worst, but this still makes me laugh:

The Kings still do the McFlurry minute where everybody gets a McFlurry if they score in the final minute of the second period.

In the late 90's / early 00's, it was a free McFlurry if a particular player scored in the 2nd period. I was at a game and they announced that the designated player was role playing winger Craig Johnson. The entire crowd groaned. I almost want to say the players were on the benches too.

Then Johnson had a breakaway but didn't convert. I think the crowd was more disappointed in not getting the McFlurry than not scoring the goal.

Worst implementation of a giveaway that I've experienced is when the Kings gave away Kopitar-themed pucks to everyone at the end of a game. This included the bottom of a non-stopping escalator emptying into a small lobby at the Staples Center. There were no reports of trampling, so apparently it worked.

I swear it’s the same guy in two different jerseys

About 6 years ago The Flyers did a glow in the dark wristband giveaway in honour of Ed Snyder. The rink looked amazing with the lights down, pre-game.

Unfortunately when the Capitals started winning in the 3rd period…

Can’t find a video but the Bruins gave away mini Stanley cups to all fans on opening night back in 2006.

The issue was the Bruins were terrible and had an awful opening night. Thousands of those mini cups ended up littering the ice after a questionable call against the home team.

Everytime we would try to redeem one of those coupons at a McDonalds after the game the employee would have to fetch the manager, in which the manager would look at the coupon, then look at us, then look at the coupon again. Proceed to shrug his/her shoulders and honor the coupons.
