The worst goaltending performance ever?

Game 2 of the First Round in 1971 - The Bruins Eddie Johnston did not have a good third period against Montreal.

Have to say Vernon Game 7 vs Edmonton 1991. He did have a bunch of late and OT miraculous saves vs Vancouver in 1989...but 1991 with Calgary up 3-0 he lets in a long one to give them life (you can hear a collective "aaaawwwwwwww" like a disbelieving how could you let that one in from the Flames fans). In the 2nd he allows another one from point where he awkwardly kicks at it and misses. The tying goal from MacTavish he's just sort of spinning around in the crease. Maybe he was bumped a bit I'm not sure but it seems like he was very scrambly at that point in the game. He then allows the go ahead goal on a stuff in near the corner of the net which he couldnt seal off (or control the rebound the previous shot) looked very sloppy. Flames tie it...but in OT he allows that Tikkanen snapper off his shoulder and in

This was a bad one in a very pivotal game

MAF was pretty embarrassing in GM 7 vs the Habs in 2010. That Travis Moen goal was such a stinker, you knew it would end 4-0. A team can’t get its mojo back after Travis freakin Moen scores on you from where he scored from.

My bad. Ended 5-2. But still, that goal really stunk up the joint lmao.
MAF has a couple iconic futility moments against Montreal.

You mention the 4-0 goal.

Fast forward a decade later, and he literally handed the puck to Josh anderson late in game 3 to tie it.

I saw the guy play--it was funny. HE would go for little skates and forget where the net was on some nights--There is a reason why the Rangers moved off of him quickly

Several people saw the guy. He was a decent goalie. Well liked in New York but he had Davidson and Thomas in front of him so he moved back home. Rangers didn't move him because he was bad, they moved him because they had no spot for him.

He was far from a great goalie but this is just revisionist. As for Swedish goalies in the NHL, Söderström was worse than Åström.

For a playoff series, a couple already mentioned: MAF in 2012 and Markstrom last year against Edmonton.

A very young Grant Fuhr in 1982 vs. the Kings had an exceptionally bad series.

Cujo, with the Leafs, vs. Buffalo in 1999. Had a bad series against a very average Buffalo offense. Toronto was primed to win that and go to the Cup Final as Hasek was in and out of the lineup with injuries but Joseph was just awful and Buffalo rolled in five.

These are more "good goalies who had a bad series" than outright all-time worst, though.

The few games that Mike O'Neill played with the Jets and Ducks in the early 90s. Truly the worst tender I have ever seen in the NHL and I have seen a lot.

Lol that whole series I was waiting for him to make a mistake like that he actually did it in such a pivotal moment...

2010 he let in an atrocious goal in game 4 too iirc to Pyatt.

And surprisingly, he's only got the 26th worst save percentage all-time among goalies with 11 or more career GP. Even more surprisingly, seven goalies "ahead" of him on that list did so in a sample at least twice as large!

1 game...Corey Hirsch. As far as actual performance, that 1993 game where Lemieux scored 5 goals vs the Rangers was awful. He gave up 10 goals, and the saves he made were because the puck just hit him. It was an atrocious effort.

I still say nothing beats Andy Moog in game two of the 1990 Cup Finals. Almost half a game of Stanley Cup Finals hockey with a... .250 save percentage. Meanwhile, his skaters were completely dominating possession and shots... and badly lost.

But I pause here to give some love to Mike Smith in game ones last spring for Edmonton.
Game 1 vs. L.A.: goes the distance and loses, with an .886
Game 1 vs. Calgary: three goals allowed in six minutes and pulled with a .700
Game 1 vs. Colorado: six goals in 26 minutes and pulled with a .760

Altogether, Smith---given the start in all three game one's---lasted an average of 30.6 minutes per-start before being pulled. His save percentage across the three game one's was .814.

Roy's 11 goal game got a mention but surprised this one hasn't:

Big stage and a lot of "clutch" reputation and blew it.

The first goal was a nice deflection, but Roy got a piece of it anyway, and I've heard goalies be like when they get a piece of it they gotta have it.

The second goal shortly after though, real bad and backbreaking, it seemed like maybe Fedorov's shot was going wide too lol?

Third goal isn't that bad I guess given that Luc Robitaille is shooting in close, but still, it seemed Roy's skating was shaky, he never seemed to get set.

Fourth goal was a tough one, great initial shot from Robitaille, and Roy actually made a tough save, rebound was juicy but this one I won't put on him.

You could see the faces of the Avs players after that second goal, just absolutely deflated. They didn't score anything, but given the way it went early on, maybe they knew it wouldn't matter.

In game six, after the horrible statue of liberty goal, at least Roy and the Avs kept their composure and still made it a game.

Funnily enough, after the first period we stopped watching and went out to play street hockey lol (my brother was an Avs fan had his jersey out and everything seemed more psyched than me and was so crushed lol I felt bad and so I suggested we just go out and play, I sorta knew the cup was won then anyway). Came back to catch the last part of the third and the highlights, but like this game was one of them that got my into the video trading scene, always wanted to get this beauty to watch fully lol

Wow! Imagine if the USA or Canada played Thailand... And wanted to se how big of a score they could run up!
A few weeks ago my 9 year old daughter asked, "What would happen if my team played the Rangers?" I said, "Your team would never touch the puck unless the Rangers let you and the Rangers would score as many goals as they wanted." I think USA/Canada vs Thailand would be worse.

The Hawks/Kraken game from Saturday has to rank up there somewhere...

-Mrazek allowed 4 goals on 5 shot
-Stalock comes in in relief and allows 2 goals on his first 2 shots against (making it 6 goals on 7 shots total)
