New track by Avatar just dropped. This is one band I'd love to see live.
Swedish dudes with facepaint, how unusual...not.
Ooh. Thanks for the reminder. Saw this earlier today on Blabbermouth.com and didn't have the chance to listen to it yet.
Funny enough, before I actually got into them, I saw them open for Mushroomhead at a local bar. I paid almost no attention to them and had honestly forgot they were at that show. Few years later after I got into them, I mention to the buddy I went to the show with that 'I'd love to see them live.' He goes, 'You did, dipshit. They opened for MRH.'
Crazy how different Johannes is on and off stage. He's such a mellow dude and just totally becomes a different person on stage. They sound f***ing amazing here, but honestly this crowd is pretty lame.
For those of you that still don't grasp the greatness of Avatar, (I'm not looking at you, @Soldier13Fox, just keep playing that game of yours) just take a look at this treasure of a movie and tell me they're shit.
I'm a bit surprised you don't like them, since you have great taste for good music. Personally I think they have a great sense of humour just like Night Flight Orchestra and doesn't take themselves too seriously. That's why you should watch that movie I posted. I'ts a comedy.Man,oh man, that band just ain't my jam. Heh. I promise to watch that video in full when im super bored![]()
Y'know, I said the same thing for a handful of years. Then, one day something clicked. I wouldn't say I have a full album I can get from front to back on, but I do really like a lot of their stuff. That friend I mentioned in the story above, was the same way. He really didn't like them. And then last year, all of a sudden, he came around on them.Man,oh man, that band just ain't my jam. Heh. Think this was the tune where everything kind of fell into place for me on them:
Incidentally, they'll be here [in Minneapolis] at the Fillmore on Nov 17th this fall.
Another killer track.
@MK9 , how well known is this band in the US? Do they get any air play at all? Or is it just word of mouth fame?
Oh man, that's just depressing. Here in Sweden we have public service radio with dedicated metal shows. Real journalists that do interviews with the artists and discusses their albums. We get 3-4 songs with commentary from the bands, the critics point of view and the audience reactions before/after their shows. The radio, at least locally here, is corporate owned and watered down beyond belief. I haven't listened to it in years. They just rotate songs that are all regurgitated crap everyone's heard 1000x or almost entirely mainstream bands. So you'll rarely hear new bands. I'm assuming most of the rest of the country is similar. I personally think the state of hard rock & metal in the states here is in shambles. Corporate radio / media promote pop, rap/hip hop and country. Most new rock is now largely ignored.
Crazy to see these Euro bands that are absolutely HUGE there where they play to arenas whatnot, they come here and play to half filled bars because they get no airplay or support here.
I mean, I just looked at our local station to see what their playlist has been like and a mass majority of those songs were the same ones in rotation 5+ years ago the last time I bothered to listen to it. It's ridiculous. It really started going downhill with the Telecommunications Act of 1996. Everything changed after that. The bill more or less did the opposite of what it was supposedly intended to do. I believe Rick Beato has a few videos where he explains what happened. Or if you want to just read about it: A Century of Radio: How the Telecom Act of 1996 Changed Radio
I bet you could maybe count 6-8 songs/bands on that list that are from 2015 or later. So, I don't know that 93X (KXXR) has ever once played Avatar, but unfortunately I highly doubt it.

The other thing that sucks locally here, is the lack of venues. Most of the bars that used to host hard rock and metal bands have either closed or aren't making money off it. And the lack of mid level venues between bars and arenas. So, now we'd have to travel to Milwaukee or Chicago to go see shows for a lot of these bands. Tour dates get released and most times there isn't even a Minneapolis date on the tour anymore. It absolutely sucks.
