This song is about a year old, but I believe the full album is due very soon. I listened to their first album a ton after it came out. Judging by the songs that have been trickling out for the past couple years, this is going to be easily as good.

This is just pure sonic joy to my ears.

As the days get shorter and I'm walking my dogs in darkness at 5 pm (can we just make daylight savings permanent?) I always find myself listening to music that suits the black, windy, cool nights. Here's some blackgaze for ya.
The only album that I'm aware they released, but this should slot into that category. The whole disc is really good. :

Dude... blast from the past. I had two ipods I brought with me on my last trip to Iraq. This album was on the newer one and, while I now remember enjoying the album, I haven't thought about it since the ipod went kaput and I'm way to lazy to recover my iTunes login and figure out how to get iTunes stuff on an android device.

Is a great album though

It's that time of the year. Every store that you're in, every radio station that's on, every tv channel you're watching, always the same boring christmas carols. That's not the music you want, that's not the music you need.
THIS is the christmas music you need, and I'm here to give it to you.

Never really gave these guys a listen until last night. Been listening to them a ton since. Just another one of the many really, really good progressive hard rock bands coming out of Australia. Crazy how many there are. Karnivool. Dead Letter Circus. Voyager. Twelve Foot Ninja. The Butterfly Effect. Cog.

Fantastic prog, these are my two favorite songs of theirs. Funny you mention Karnivool, been dying for new stuff from them forever.

I'm a sucker for a concept album. The premise of this concept album is awesome... a dude traveling north through a post apocalyptic scottland. That said, I've been listening to this album all day and haven't had a chance to actually try and understand the lyrics. The music and production are so good. Not typically what you would find with a one man band. January isn't even over and this album will likely be in best of year consideration for me. Embedded song is the opener and it just flows so perfectly.

This is unreal. I haven't heard a single song these guys have done that I didn't like. They're amazing.

Borknagar released another banger of an album. Can't stop listening to this song. ICS Vortex vocals are top notch.

I like it. For some reason I'd never listened to them. Their sound for some reason doesn't really match what I expected in my head based on their name. Good though. Will have to check out some other stuff of theirs. His voice vaguely reminds me of some 70's singer I can't place my finger on right now.

Yeah, I get that. The name and font are very black metal. They were much more black metal in the 90s but have kind of transitioned to more of a ... blackish tinged prog type sound . Some more recommendations:

This is another single off of the new album as well. The song as a whole isn't as good IMO... but if you stick with it until about the 5:30 the build up and crescendo is truly amazing.

Fun single from the last album. All clean vocals and very proggy.

From a few albums ago. This is a really cool song and features vocals from prior members (Garm and Vintersorg) along with current singers ICS Vortex and Lazare (black metal musician names are awesome). Plus it features my favorite drummer of all time, Baard Kolstad. Too bad it was the only album he contributed too.

Digging that Erra band, thanks for sharing.

I've dug into them a little bit. So far, this is hands down my fav tune of theirs I've heard yet. Cripes, you could almost use this as a Wild pre game tune leading into the player intros:

And yeah, my buddy was the one that showed me Erra. Luckily they've got a handful of albums. Been listening to them a lot. Apparently the clean singer also has another band called Ghost Atlas. I've never heard of them, but I gather they seem to be relatively popular.

If you would have told me the other day I would be obsessed with a track where Mikael Stanne sings 100% clean, I would have told you you're iut of your mind. I never disliked his clean vocals, just always thought they should be kept at a minimum. This song, though, this song rocks.

Reminds me a little bit of Sisters Of Mercy.

This east coast old school trash metal band is one of my favorites. Every time I see them live I just go bonkers. I'm a sucker for great guitars, and how about the stache? Love it.

Imagine being a 16 year old kid in an oppressively religious household. Then having your dad find your (hidden) cassette copy of their EP 'f*** You'. Try and fathom how well that turned out. :DD

[EDIT]: Pathetic that the forum now auto censors words it deems offensive.

I'm sorry for you, dude. I bet he didn't like Rat Skates drum patterns?
You should try play him this track of (arguably) the godfathers of epic doom metal.
I am by no means a religous person, but this one always brings me to tears when I see them live. One of my friends , Mike Amott (Carcass, Arch Enemy, Spiritual Beggars) had a brief stint with them in 1997 and they are all awesome people.

Would guess that was probably the least of his issues with them.

I remember Candlemass. They got some traction here in the late 80's. Got played on MTV's Headbangers Ball occasionally. I never really sat down and listened to them that I remember, but maybe? Doom metal...aside from Katatonia (I think they were considered doom at one point, but I absolutely love those guys.), isn't really my thing. I know the name Michael Amott of course. Not a huge Arch Enemy fan, but I don't mind them either. I mean...Angela Gassow and Alissa White-Gluz are uh...pretty easy to watch, so there's that. It's cool you're buddies with him. Have to imagine the metal circles run kinda small in Sweden being as little as it is. Blows me away how many bands I listen to are from there. Has to be anywhere from 20-30. From the 80's throwback stuff to the melodic death metal. Soooo many Swedish bands. lol. I should go through my 'liked' bands and see how many there truly are.

We live in the same small town, and the metal people here all know each other. I'm closer to his little brother, Chris Amott (Arch Enemy, Amageddon, Dark Tranquillity) but I was their driver to a lot of the local shows when Mike and his band Spiritual Beggars were in their early days after his departure from Carcass, a UK grindcore band cited as a major influence of the melodic death metal/grind core genre. I didn't know Mike at the time, because he was a few years older than me, but I was best friends with Ludwig Witt, the drummer of Spiritual Beggars ( a stoner rock band) and I also was a concert promoter for a very short time in my youth. That was a pretty exhaustive experience and I learned pretty fast that was not my thing. We arranged a local metal gala and just advertised in our "state" and expected somewhere around a 2-300 strong crowd. Imagine our shock when 3 bus loads of germans showed up without notice and all of the beers sold out in a couple of minutes. I still remember the frantic calls to our local beer brewery to get a delivery in the midst of chaos. Good times. I still don't know how in the hell the germans knew about our local concert and arranged such a huge turnout at our small town gala. Beats me.
My friend Ludwig had a band together with the guitarist from Carcass, Bill Steer, called Firebird (a blues rock / hard rock band) and I was so star struck when I met him. But he was the coolest guy you could imagine and I drove them to the airport when they were going on a tour with their band. One of my fondest memories was when he /Bill) picked out a UFO CD from my collection and then signed his CD for me.

This one features the founding member, singer Spice, later in the band Kayser.

Here is Spiritual Beggars with another singer, Apollo Papathanasio, who also sung for Firewind, a greek band featuring guitarist Gus G who later played with Ozzy Osbourne. I never met Gus G, but I know Apollo since my youth. He is now a music teacher in a local school. Funny how things goes.

I only met Angela once at a local candy/tobacco store when she was living in my town together with Mike, they were a couple at that time. But I'm never gonna forget the impact she made on me. Truly a star. Of course I was backstage after all of their local shows, but that is not the same thing.

Yeah, I remember him from the early Firewind stuff. Been a fan of theirs for years. Started listening to them shortly after they put out Forged By Fire. I love power metal. Firewind, Gamma Ray, Primal Fear, Brainstorm, etc.

That singer in the first video reminds me a bit of Tobias Jansson from Saffire.

Of course I forgot to mention some of the members of Spiritual Beggars. Keyboard player Per Wiberg - Wikipedia also plays with Candlemass,(live occasionally), Swithblade and Opeth, Enslaved, among others. And he is also one of the nicest guys in rock music. So humble, and so many stories to tell. And bassist Sharlee D'angelo played with Mercyful Fate and Dismember, King Diamond, Witchery and Night Flight Orchestra. I guess that's a super group in it's true meaning, right?

Here is Opeth, with singer Michael Åkerfeldt. Never met him. But guitarist Fredrik Åkesson, who replaced my buddy Chris when he decided to leave Arch Enemy to pursuit a "solo career" with his band Armageddon, I had a drug fueled party night out with Freddy, introducing him to our local beauties after a Arch Enemy gig in my hometown. He was a really nice guy and we had a blast. He is a really great guitarist and played in the band Talisman with singer Jeff Scott Soto who in his turn sang with Yngwie Malmsteen early in his career and later with Journey.

Here is Freddy with Talisman, shredding his black Gibson. Also the bassist Marcel Jacob who also played with Yngwie in his early solo years.

Thank you for sharing this video. I can see the comparison to Spice, it's really close. I've never heard of these guys before.
