Thanks.

Yesterday was a really draining day.

It started with some drama at church that was not handled well and led some past traumas to really get brought back up for me. So, not a great way to start the day.

Then, midway through the game, my ex texted to say that her mom had passed.

And then the Bills lost.

My younger two kids seem to be in OK shape today. Given that she had been in the hospital for the past month, they were prepared for her to pass. And I think that they are relieved that she is no longer suffering.

That sounds like a lot a lot. Wow.

Rough day friend. Hope your kids are holding up okay in particular.

Had a job I was going to apply for. Basically as close to a slam dunk as possible. Needed to submit a written letter of recommendation. Received that yesterday, but requested the writer edit something. Haven't gotten that edit yet. Checked today and the job is gone. I just want to scream.

EDIT:
I called HR and eventually got a call back. The job's back listed again. Applying now, AND I think I'm getting a reference letter from a current employee.

So my work did a “cost of living” adjustment to the salary schedule but because I’m above the minimum amount for the new schedule for the level of employee I am, it will not adjust my pay at all. So yeah it is not a true COL adjustment. Guess I gotta wait and see what happens when merit conversations happen in 2 weeks and go from there. But there is less and less keeping me from jumping ship. Only thing that is keeping me here currently is that it is hard to find a new job that pays close to what I currently make.

But with stagnant pay, life getting so much more expensive, and other things my days are probably numbered.

Jump ship. I was in the same situation, and hoped it would improve.

Each company is different obviously, but the corporate trend these days would bet against it getting better.

Man, everytime I see this shit it pisses me off. Stuff is constantly getting more expensive while the big companies profit more and pay less tax. And they can't even share the crumbs.

It's gonna get ugly real soon I fear.

100%. It's the largest smash and grab in history, and it's completely unsustainable.

I have been looking. The sad part is, that my company used to be excellent and I was paid well above market average in my area for my job and I got good merit raises year over year for a while. But pay has become stagnant and this “COL” increase just makes it worse. But because of where I started and where I’m at now, not many places I’ve looked at are hiring at the level of pay I’m comfortable with. And with life getting more expensive and corporate greed increasing, I’m in a tough spot. Want/need to make more but not getting it from current company and to leave I need to make close to but preferably more than I’m currently making and the jobs just aren’t there.

I'm hopeful that the job market will improve this spring. It's all cyclical. I would just say that when the market does improve take the leap and get out of where you are, and not just feel like "everything is fine now".

Good luck to you.

Played Apples to Apples tonight with the family at dinner. I pulled the card "Luscious". My wife put down the response "The New York Yankees", and I have so, so many questions that I really, REALLY do not want answered.

I spent 5 months applying for jobs, somewhere between 50-100 didnt really keep track but I never got a single follow up, it finally took me talking to someone in my network to actually get some movement since he was able to make sure my resume got in front of a real person.

This market is brutal. See Doak's post above. It's bad and it's going to get worse as more money trickles up.
