The Vancouver Media Thread | Part VIII

  • Xenforo Cloud is doing server maintenance Thurdsay 13th at 9 AM GMT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. We expect to have this issue solved once the maintenance is complete.
  • We are currently aware of "log in/security error" issues that are affecting some users. We apologize and ask for your patience as we try to get these issues fixed.
Maybe I'm wrong, but Gary Mason leaving out important Rutherford quotes, because "It was 1400+ words" is pretty scummy, knowing it would blow up.

His name is everywhere this week, accidentally on purpose.

I don't really think he did it on purpose. It does significantly alter the story from a "bombshell" (as HalBro called it) to, essentially, Rutherford confirming the obvious, though.

I find it crazy nobody asked Tochett about the bombshell article by rutherford after practice.

It's a layup

There's no Vancouver media on this road trip other than the woman who works for the Canucks that is only allowed to ask softball questions.
This maybe a controversial take. I think as fans that are invested in the health of the franchise, I can live without the whole cycle of tirefire on ice/off ice circus stories after stories, and all the reaction articles that gets generated out of it.

I don't mind it when we had a really astute Gillis management that is smarter than the opportunists doing everything for extra clicks. But JR is sooooo surprisingly charmingly naive, please just let Allvin do the interviews from now on. I can live with softball questions in this crucial period of the franchise.

The journalist is foiled once again by reading comprehension.

You don't release a story like that on Twitter. Nothing good can come from that. If it's 1400+ words, put it in print.

Its really on Aquilini, this one.

This morning on Halford & Brough they had David Amber on & he said something along the lines of how lucky they were to have a story like Petey/Miller to cover. I couldn’t help but coming away thinking how big of a dips*** someone has to be to think that.

After last season & finally having pride in the team, media think it’s “lucky” to have a story about our core crumbling due to personal drama to cover. It made me think a lot about our local guys & how many of them are secretly happy to have this rift to talk about daily instead of wins.

He is literally feeding his family and putting kids through college. I think it's incredibly noble. He has to do it. He is literally financially compelled to. And in the end, he has enough grace to try and give both sides a stage which makes him the natural Ron MacLean of the panel. It's a beautiful thing watching the torch get passed naturally and not clumsily. Good to know that Sportsnet arsed up and finally got it right when the dollar came calling. The institution of Hockey Night wasn't sold out in the end, but continued. It's good to be mad about programming choices instead of f***ing potential political nightmares.

Long gone are the days where journalists do deep dives and get a window into the truth. In 2025, journalism is literally about how many hits or views you can get to monetize it, which is more akin to selfishly using a situation for own personal gain. Real journalism (in the pure form of journalism, where you go find and report on truths to inform the public) is dead. Our media constantly beats this dead f***ing horse for selfish clicks and views constantly. Nothing really for us the consumer to gain, other than constant outrage and more views for them

Daily reminder that you do not dislike journalists enough.

I don't disagree with what you said but you take that a step further and people start saying I'm a condescending lol.

Unlike is widely believed on these boards, the media is extremely vanilla in Vancouver. Has probably never been this soft and easy on the players, management and coach in the Canucks existence.

I say this as a Drance fan but Holy f*** was he being overly obtuse today on the radio during the crossover with Donnie and Dhali.

All clout, very little original thought. He's not dumb but I don't like him either. He has a persistent need to sound like the smartest person in the room.
