Coaches don't execute the power play, the players do. These guys can't get on the same page, regardless how much they practice it. Noel has been here the least amount of time. Agnew had his turn at the power play and it wasn't much better. In practice, Hitchcock is out there coaching it also. The solution is to get rid off ALL of them.

I would like to see or hear one of the owner/ management meetings about how the season is shaping up right now for the Jackets.

What is SH telling ownership?...Dont worry, the power play will come around. Well start calling up guys and play them out of their natural position, you'll see.

Does ownership care?...Isnt there a person in North America ( a coach in juniors, an assistant for a minor league team, an out of work bus driver from Timbuctoo) who knows something about a power play situation, that can come into Columbus and show this team a thing or two. Because what we have sure aint working.

I never remember the Special Teams being this collectively bad...

Fire this Coaching Staff now.
PP has basically always sucked, but we've always been able to hang our hat on the PK the last few seasons. To have both sucking is ridiculous. There should be coach's heads rolling RIGHT NOW!!!! Do something Howson!!!!!!!!!!!

Leave him in California, don't let him take the flight back.

Leave Backman with him. Watching that man play professional hockey makes me feel overpaid. And I am by no stretch of the imagination a professional hockey player.

(Sorry, I know that's off-topic, but, you know... couldn't help it.)

I have an idea. We can bring Newel Brown back with us after the game tonight and leave Noel. Now this plan may require force and I'll get back to you when I have it all figured out!

Maybe they're waiting to until after the holidays to do this, because it wouldn't be Christmas without Noel?

Hey guys I just figured out what's wrong with the Columbus Blue Jackets' powerplay: they practice against the Columbus Blue Jackets' penalty kill

Looks like we can put this thread to bed...

From the Dispatch said:
The Jackets rank last among the league's 30 teams on power plays and 23rd in penalty killing. But Hitchcock says he has no plans of transferring responsibilities within his staff.

Claude Noel runs the power play, and Gord Murphy is in charge of the penalty killers.

"That's an easy way out, and that never works," Hitchcock said.

What does Agnew do now, besides say "pleasure."

Might as well give him another shot at running the PP

PuckRakers indicates Hitch doesn't agree with Noel on the PP. Interesting. I hope he proves Noel wrong!

The power play system has been changed. That's right, a mid-season systems change for the NHL's worst-ranked power play. Coach Ken Hitchcock said he watched 40 of the Blue Jackets power plays "three times or so" each while on his four-day "break" for the All-Star Game. Assistant coach Claude Noel did the same. Hitchcock said they had differing opinions, but that Hitchcock, citing a benevolent dictatorship, won out. "This one you can hang on me," Hitchcock joked.

Yes! This may be one of the days coming that we've all been waiting for. Hitch to fix the power play and in the process likely proof that one of the Assistants is worthless.

I really think this could make a world of difference, Noel is puke compared to other special team coaches, look at edmonton they fired Craig simpson who was.. should I say worse? Anyway a new ST coach would be a breath of fresh air we have been lacking

From the Dispatch this morning...
...Raffi Torres threw his entire body into a slap shot that drilled assistant coach Claude Noel in the knee as it left the offensive zone.

Noel went airborne. The guffaws and one-liners were flying almost before he hit the ice.

"Lower body injury," Noel said later, carrying a bag of ice as he hobbled through the dressing room. "I'm day to day."
I hope he's a scratch for the rest of the season, put him on IR, trade him, something!

I found this interesting...From the Dispatch today:

Jackets assistant coach Claude Noel is rumored as a possible head coaching candidate next season in Pittsburgh. The Penguins fired coach Michel Therrien on Sunday and named Dan Bylsma as interim coach.
