GBU The U

I think some zoomed out perspective is needed here. Young teams tend to be streaky as they learn how to manage the game and we have the YOUNGEST team.

So prior to the losing streak they won 6 of 8 during a grueling schedule.

Lost to Minnesota in a shootout (coin flip/Lukkonnen doing his best Lehner impression)

Lost to Carolina at the end of their grueling stretch with their first multi-day break in a month... came out flat and got buried. Carolina is one of the best teams in the league.

Loss to Calgary, first game after a really long break, in the early afternoon, against a team that had played 3 games out of their break already. NHL teams tend to get caved coming out of the break it seems, not terribly unique, even less surprising for such a young team.

Immediately go out west, and play a super late game a day after a grueling practice against a very strong defensive team.

This year is still a learning year for this group and they're still in the hunt for the playoffs. They got humbled these last four games, got a taste of what it's going to take to make it, and hopefully they will learn from it.

Young teams are streaky as hell. The Sabres are a young team. They are streaky as hell. They're going to continue to be streaky as hell, but they could JUST as easily turn it around and win 7 of their next 8.

Couldn't have said it better.

They are the streakiest Sabres team I can remember.

First 10: 7-3-0
Next 8: 0-8-0
Next 10: 5-3-2 (Only stretch not hot/cold)
Next 9: 8-1-0
Next 6: 1-4-1
Next 5: 5-0-0
Next 4: 0-3-1

So we’ve spent almost the entire season in the middle of a hot streak or cold streak. I guess history tells us we’re due for a hot streak!

Score effects in the third certainly make this look a lot better than it was.
There are some score effects in there. The score was not really indicative of how the game went. The Sabres played clumsy and awkwardly before it got out of hand, but the Kings weren’t playing well either so it was pretty even
The stats say we got way out chanced in the 1st, but that we out chanced the Kings in the 2nd and 3rd.

Phone posting right now so I can’t just copy the table.

I think he's done now
I think there will be smaller changes than most fans want.

There is a difference between what I would do as GM and what I expect Adams to do.

I expect Adams to continue to be way more patient than a lot of fans want him to be. I think one big cause for that is that Adams doesn't view the team and the build through the same drought lenses as many fans do.

:dunno:

I don't think so.

If they can get him 3+ GF, he has been giving them enough to win or get to OT on most nights.

They have 3 GF total in his last 3 regulation losses.
thanks for the stats. I couldn't remember how he had done in those last few games.

It’s not a question of emotional reaction to think a team getting boat raced three games in a row isn’t developmentally beneficial
they got boat raced? more like Anderson just sucked entirely the skaters didn't play all that bad defensively though they didn't do much on offense either. You can't let a shot go in from the blue line after you just gave away the puck 10 seconds ago. The shorty was also a nothing shot on the shortside that should have easily been saved. Not like they were letting them get point blank shots like Carolina.

If you have to score a four pointer in the third to win a game that’s just how it is

I would say you've used the stats to prove your narrative here.
If you chose all 8 game sets perhaps then see what the streak shows, rather than shift between 10 or 6 or 4 games etc.
Not saying they aren't streaky but you've certainly picked specific alternating number of games to show your point.

In blocks of 10 games:

1st 10 - 7-3-0 - .700
2nd 10 - 2-8-0 - .200
3rd 10 - 5-3-2 - .600
4th 10 - 6-4-0 - .600
5th 10 - 6-2-2 - .700

Start of 6th 10 - 0-2-0 - .000

I disagree because I’m just showing that they go on runs of losses or wins (regardless of length of said run). Just take a look at a view with their schedule and results and it jumps off the page. They are streaky af.

Literally every average team in the NHL is "streaky" it's an 82 game season.

Both are valid. Jim Bob's does a good job of showing your average win percentage over time, but doesn't show how toothy the graph is. DapperCam is showing the volatility, or standard deviation on the curve. Both are valid.
