Looks like there are a few RHD projected to go in the top 10-15 of the draft. It’s possible the Rangers have one or more high on their draft list and it’s very likely they’ll get one.

But if you look around the league, it’s the young skilled scoring forwards that are making the difference in games.

Or a highly skilled Karlsson like defenseman (Boqvist) who just happens to be a RHD. First blush is If you don’t win the lotto I think you target him and try to move up through trade

This will be scoffed at by the pie chart crowd but I also like the leadership group they're building with Lias, Howden and Lindgren.

Thoughts about analytics aside, I like the character of the group they're building. People are upside that they didn't get sexy names in the trades, but this is where I'd rather see the Rangers add those intangibles. Meaning I'd rather trade for guys who are further along in their progression than try and draft players based on their character, leadership ability, etc. Those are great and important traits, but when you have a pool of guys with intangibles you're free and clear to take some big swings at the draft.

Here’s what I’ve got going forward:

20Kreider/98Zibanejad/36Zucc
23Spooner/Namestnikov/89Buch
26Vesey/13Hayes/17Fast
28Carey/51DD/McLeod

95Lettieri
Beleskey
12Holland
24Nieves
Chytil
Andersson

76Skjei/77DeAngelo
58Gilmour/44Pionk
46O’Gara/18Staal

Sproul
42Smith

Lundqvist
Georgijev

INJ

47Kampfer
Pavelec
22Shattenkirk

Geordie Clark has to be excited about this turn of events. He’s generally done a lot wit( a little. This year will be his turn to shine.

Seriously after 2013-16 this year is going to be like heaven for him.

He'll probably have 4 first round picks to work with by the time its said and done along with who knows what in the 2nd and perhaps 10ish picks in the top 100.

Overall, I think the Rangers did well in this "re-build" period. They did well with the Nash trade; the return for McDonagh/Miller isn't awful, but wish they could've gotten at least 1 of Tampa Bay's top end prospects. (was surprised they added Miller to the McDonagh deal; I'm guessing Gorton was bound and determine to move McDonagh now while his value would be the highest). Overall, I like the philosophy they have undertaken, time will tell if the prospects/draft picks turn into at least solid NHL players (they need some of them to become high end talent players; it's up to the players themselves and whatever coaching staff is here to develop them properly). They still have a couple of pieces they can move this summer to continue to stockpile assets (Zuccarello, etc.)

I just want to point out that we got a LD in every transaction we made leading up to TD.

O'Gara
Rykov
Lindgren
Hajek
Bigras

And if we magically end up with #1OA, we're adding Dahlin. I mean, we won't get the #1 but hey (Sam Rosen NY State Lottery voice: "you never know!").

So I hope some pan out and we can swap for RD or get a decent one or two in the draft. But we still need a higher ranked C, and I'd love a real sniper.

Yes, true that @Stasis - it`s an exciting time for sure.

Choking rn

“The return isn’t awful” “I suppose it’s a fair return”. I hope for his sake Gorton never checks this place out.

One thing I would be careful about assuming is that the Rangers “settled” for certain players.

The truth is that the team could be very high on some the players that posters know less about.

Every prospect they took in had excellent best on best outings the last two years at the WJC. That tournament is the pinnacle for players in that age group, and a key barometer for players trying to make it to the next level. Usually the players listed in the top ranks at the tourney turn out to be really solid NHL players. You have exceptions, the Tokarski's of the world. But generally it's a benchmark for their NHL role and upside.

All three defensemen that they took in, played the McD role for their National teams in the tourney. So my guess is that they are hoping a couple of them can fill it, by committee if not by themselves.

I think they also understand that once you get beyond the can’t miss prospects, it’s all a risk. To that extent, not all of these kids will make it. So you try to come up with diversity. You mix prospects with higher odds, but a lower ceiling, with prospects who have higher ceilings but lower odds.

Yeah and that sums up the Howden acquisition to a tee. Low Floor High Ceiling. Colton Sissons to Mikael Backlund.

I'm most high on Hajek. Plays a thinking man's game, great skating and size. Can create offensively when needed, but fills that top shutdown option for his teams. If you look at the defensemen that torched the WJC 20s for the last 10 years, there are some great names on that list. Almost every defenseman is a star or a top pair option. Hajek was third behind Makar & Dahlin this past tourney. Granted he's got a year or two on those, but those two are lottery picks.

I would love to hear your guys' opinions. We seem to have a lot of versatile forwards (guys who can play either side, or play the C) and I'm wondering which players you think fit in where.

Kevin Hayes - Better at C or W? I would say C

Is Ryan Spooner a better C or RW?

What about Namestnikov?

Is Zuccarello better suited to be a RW or LW?

Vinni Lettieri? I think with his shot, he should be a RW.

And for that matter, what about the future of Filip Chytil? Is it down the middle or at C? What about some of the other prospects?

Hayes at center at this point. Had you asked me prior to this season, I’d say wing.

Spooner at RW.

Namestnikov - wing

Lettieri - wing

Zucc - RW

Chytil - too soon to tell. But I’ve said it a few times in the last week or so that I think his future might be on the wings.

Kudos to Rangers management for being smart and doing it this way.

Do you guys think there's any chance Rangers try to make a run at Karlsson or even Doughty in the off-season? A high-end D seems to be the only piece the Rangers are missing moving forward if Chytil/Andersson pan out up front.
