I think it's a very valid point.

I wouldn't spend a pick that should net an nhl player that's team owned for many years for a rental that might not even be able to serve their purpose. Not to mention that while Copp is a useful player, he may not even be worth a first if completely healthy

We always talk about needing good scoring in the top 9 so it can only help. No Copp, likely no Stastny next season, so it would be decent. Fits the timeline as well with 2 years on the deal.

If so, hopefully these teams keep outbidding each other and bump up the price

I know it won't happen, but I'd love to be able to move out Copp, Stas (if he's not going to re-sign for something cheap), and an expensive D contract and end up with picks, prospects, and also turn some capital into trading for Conor Garland. He's 1 million per more expensive than Debrusk, but a better player IMO.
