Just mere days after the final whistle blew in Super Bowl XLVIII, the NHL is proud to present for its fans....the Toilet Bowl. A regular season match-up between two former "division rivals" in small-markets that received teams only through relocation. One team has a logo that some compare to a toilet bowl being emptied. One team shares its name with a manufacturer of toilets (it's true - the toilets on the cruise ship we were on last week were made by Jets!) And what a gripping undercurrent we have in this game folks as we see Ron Hainsey square up against his old squad while Carolina fans brace themselves for the return of this man who managed to get fired by the Hurricanes not just once, but twice:

This is the only matchup I miss from the Southeast Division. With the 'Canes in the East and the Jets plying their trade out West, I find it increasingly easy to cheer on Carolina.

Good luck, folks!

Seems like it's been forever since this team has played. I guess that's what 5 games in 7 days will do to you

Either way, 5-1 loss. Maurice will get his revenge

Pavelec's last three starts:
3 GA on 26 shots
4 GA on 25 shots
4 GA on 28 shots
3.67 GAA .861 save%

Somehow he went 2-1.

Hainsey with a hat trick to show his elite offensive abilities to his former team that was misusing him.

I do believe you meant to say six goals. Ron Hainsey scores no quantity of goals other than six.

Hurricanes win 6-1.

...speaking of which, where has Lynk been?

I've seen him over on the Jets a few times. He just doesn't post much anymore I think.

The Winnipeg Jets, a team rejected by Atlanta, rejected by the Leastern Conference, and captained and coached by men rejected by a perennial non playoff team in the Carolina Hurricanes

5-1 loss

Even when the Thrash were still here in Atlanta, the Canes were my favorite SE team. This game is a win/win for me.

Welp. It's my birthday. Time to win. I will be wearing the jersey I only get to wear maybe twice a year now, my Thrashers Burmistrov jersey. If anyone sees me, come say hi, it may be the only time I stick out like a sore thumb.

Won't be shocked to see a few Thrashers jerseys there FWIW. It's funny, now that they're in the west I've found no problems pulling for them a bit, especially with Mo at the helm.

But naturally I want our guys to kick some serious ass tonight, as I always do when we're not in full on tank mode

Jets board a little unclear as to why Pavelec is getting the start tonight. Ha-ha. They don't understand all the factors at play here.

Here in Raleigh, we are legendary for having a "country club" atmosphere, championed in no small part by Jim Rutherford and, of course, Paul Maurice. And in Raleigh, we do solids on this team for those who are related or good friends, even and/or especially at the expense of winning.

It's well known that Pavelec and Jiri Tlusty are friends.

Even though he's been gone for a while now, Mo probably knows of this friendship, too. Just being so close to his house here, his old barbershop, and of course our endless supply of meth... he just sort of slid right back into old habits naturally.

In short, Mo will probably not leave Raleigh resembling the same guy who has performed such a short turnaround on the Jets.

Or it could be that Pavelec absolutely destroys the Canes. Or am I thinking of Hedberg?

Which one was the Moose?

Actually I had to go look a bunch of stuff up, just to be sure, and because I wouldn't have been surprised if that was the case.

We've scored 3 or more times in 17 of our last 23 meetings, according to the game notes. Whoa.

Pavelec 6-7-2 lifetime against us, 3.64 GAA.

And for some reason i'm forgetting that Olli Jokinen has 59 points in 59 games against us.
