The Timo Meier trade revisited.

If Meier isn't working out for NJ Islanders should look into trading for him. Something like Engvall/Duclair + Mayfield + Colorado's 1st in 26 for Mieir

Basically the 2 players from the Islanders would cover the bulk of his salary, I am not an expert on NJ but I think Mayfield could be a solid Bottom pairing guy for them plus NJ gets a first rounder in a good draft(from what I hear)

Not trying to be rude but that's a crap offer. Two essential cap dumps and a very late 1st.

If Meier was on pp1 all year, he’d be scoring 30+
The fact that he doesn't fit on PP1 or next to Jack Hughes when everyone's healthy is kind of a knock against the trade though.

He's not really fit in, but that's kind of why the FO coveted him, he brought a game that no one else on the offense brought, except maybe parts of Miles Wood's game resembled Meier's if you squinted.

He's a great player, but he's not really taken the offense to the next level as hoped. Those trade chips and cap space possibly could have gone in another direction, the team possibly could have held firm on no Zetterlund, idk. I'm not gonna to second guess it unless his game really falls off.

1 cap dump, I would look at Mayfield at about even value assuming your defense needs a 3rd pairing guy with decent defensive skill and a first to take Back Mieier's contract with 0 retention(now way would I touch that contract at full value)

I would be more than Happy to do Engval or Duclair + a 1st for Meier

Or even a first for Meier at 3M retention

Mayfield is a bottom pairing defenseman making 3.5 for 5 more years. That's crap. He'll be 37 when it expires. If you wouldn't touch the Meier contract then no one is touching this one.

I'm not a Devils fan, but they already have Hamilton, Pesce, Kovacevic, Nemec who are all RHD.

New Jersey was probably better off finding two middle 6 players for 5 mil and 4 mil instead of paying Meier. He's still a good player but he's not an impact guy most nights and the extra depth would've been a better fit coming from two players.

Where would NJ put Mayfield? They already have Hamilton, Pesce, Kovacevic, Nemec and Casey as RHD.
I understand your desire to dump a questionable contract but it's not feasible for NJ to take that one.

San Jose moved on from Zetterlund who shoukd have been a mainstay for them so something might be off a bit there. Meier has allegedly upped his defensive game this season and has started to fit a bit better with Hischier now that Meier is shooting is starting to normalize. Being Swiss doesn’t exactly hurt him either.

Meier's been a bit disappointing, but not to the point where they'd consider moving him. Has really picked up his play the past few weeks and was one of their better players in the 2023 playoffs, despite being snakebit. Curious to see how he does this time around in the playoffs against a tough Carolina team where NJ will be rather large underdogs.
