The Synergistic Effect Of Dubas Going All In

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
Seeing as Dubas has never made a bad pick we can assume a future star was missed out on.

That's right. In 5 years we get to retrospectively cherry pick out of the next 192+ draft picks for the star player(s) selected after the draft position.

Everyone will look at it differently depending on their agenda I guess. I don't like using hindsight to judge trades, I judge them by what we know at the time so to me, the 1st round pick is worth what it's worth today, and what happens in the future doesn't change that one bit.

If the goaltending isn't good enough then I'd say there were two better options:

1 - trade for a better goalie
2 - if you can't swing a trade for a better goalie then don't waste futures on rentals

It's almost impossible to win the cup without good goaltending.

A better goalie or do nothing, got it.
I think the Leafs have good goaltending so cup win is possible especially with the new additions that didn't cost that much.

I wouldn't put it that bluntly. I'm just saying, Dubas is gambling that our goaltending will hold up so let's hope he's right. If it doesn't then he's the one who will take the blame but then, he's the GM so that goes with the territory anyway.

I'd say the team is incredibly deep in net in terms of number of options. They just need to have the right choice in net more often than not. We have many 'guys'. The hope is to have 'the guy'.

Leafs didn't give up any of their top 4 assets, so I'm not sure if this is going all-in. Didn't Anthopoulous trade the Jays top prospects?

Yeah all-in is a massive overstatement for sure.

Yup. that's the hope. First I'll hope that Andersen gets healthy and provides with an additional option, without him, saying we're incredibly deep in net is also an overstatement.

No idea what "all in" means in the context of TDL acquisitions, but IMO he did what appears to address the needs of a playoff run.

Barring injuries, there are no excuses to not get to the final four. It's on the players and Keefe (to a lesser degree) now.

Dubas' arguably gave up more assets in the Muzzin trade than during all of the tdl moves this season.

2nd most valuable asset moved out by the Leafs during this tdl period (including all the way back to the Galy trade) was a 3rd round pick

Muzzin's also easily worth more then this grab bag of rental players. This comparison makes it seem like we actually overpaid pretty badly for Foligno.

Considering that according to Jarmo Kekalainen, Wash and Col were offering firsts as well....it's not an overpay in any way, shape or form. It was the market price to pay if you wanted him. Foligno chose where he wanted to go.

Ya I'm not complaining or anything, maybe just pointing out what a good deal the Muzzin trade was. Funny how I kept hearing that this was a buyers market, didn't really turn out that way. Whatever, I just hope our goaltending holds up, if it does then we should be in the semis and at that point we'll probably be happy we traded for Foligno. Fall short of that and it'll go down as a waste of assets (as is usually the case for rental deals).

GLG!!

The moves look decent but I am skeptical that they were Dubas' idea. His vision of a winning team is markedly different than the team that now exists. However, I do like the direction that this team is headed. The jury is still out on whether they have the internal fortitude to win in the playoffs. P.S. Freddie will never wear a Leaf jersey again except perhaps as a pajama top.
