Post-Game Talk: The summer of our discontent

These guys really are real life assholes, not just game time assholes.

I have never in my life seen a bigger group of sore winners. What is the point in doing that other than to beat their chests that they were gifted another Stanley cup by the corrupt leagues double standards and game management? The Panthers have usurped the Flames and Canucks as my most hated team and it’s not even close.

Holy shit rent free. I think they know deep down the 200 panther fans there are where they peaked.

Can you imagine if we won a cup in Edmonton this city would shut down for a week.

Winning a cup in Florida is the equivalent of being the best lacross team in Canada. Literally who is the captain?

They would have ha to shut down all of downtown for the amount people that would have shown up for the party and parade. If it was a weekday businesses would have closed just to send their employees to the celebration.

The sore winner phenomenon seems to be unique to American markets IMO. The Avalanche fans were the exact same way, obsessively hating on anything Oilers and chirping years later from......a Conference Final win? It's bizarre behaviour. If you beat a rival, sure. But this? Think any Oiler fan is obsessively going after Stars fans? Or even Knights fans despite a bit of a rivalry (although there aren't many)? Even though we just lost back to back, other than ripping a few individuals on that team we don't like, all you hear from our fans is respect.

In this case it even extends to the players, which is bordering on crazy. I wish I had more of an education in clinical psychology, because this behaviour has to fit into a diagnosis. Other than maybe Vancouver I don't foresee this type of behaviour from any other Canadian market or even most traditional hockey markets.

It's the culmination of bro culture and the philosophy that winning is all that matters. My first exposure to this was when I moved to the US for grad school and had to deal with teaching lab sessions to frat bros whose whole life revolved around them being in that frat. Over a decade later and it's become much worse and spread beyond frats.

The obsession with their alma matter is unique to them too.

I went to a PGA tournament in Florida a few years ago and it was almost like everyone had to wear their cult badge to show who they belong to. Houses lining the course were adorned with whichever University the owner went to, and the apparel the fans were wearing on course was pretty much 25% their University, 25% their NFL team, and the other 50% just wearing normal golf stuff.

The only thing like this that really stuff people into camps in Canada is the NHL, and even then we're much more friendly about it than they are, even with teams/fans we hate. Down there it's like they have an innate need to put themselves in a camp whether it be political, sports, university, where they're from, etc and then ride that camp HARD. Every culture is different, but they are uniquely strange like this in the Western world. Would be curious to see if you see it similarly living there.

You know what the sad thing is? Skinner and Arvidsson were healthy scratches with a healthy roster. That combined $7 million could've paid a more effective player to actually help us.

And then people wonder why we complain about a substandard player "only" making $4 million. This shit adds up.
I am still baffled by Knoblauch’s handling of Skinner. He could have been a useful player for us.

Classless and degenerate, and oh so typically American. No surprise. All these people do is thump their chests at every opportunity. Like inbred gorillas. This is why I will always cheer for any Canadian team over any team from south of the border.

Barkov went to wake up his neighbors at 5am to celebrate and they didn't bother to open the door haha

Panther players will never admit to this, but for the majority of the time they love that nobody knows who they are and they can just live their lives like ordinary Joes, but the time after winning a cup when nobody cares or knows who you are is a huge bite to players that have big egos like Panther players have. This is the time that you want people to actually recognize you and congratulate you, and nobody in FLA cares.

Just a trash organization from top down, from the co owner getting suspended for 51st state comments, to Paul Maurice and its players. trash all around. They can’t even win with grace and dignity, they have to go low every time. It’s their nature. I will never respect them.

They aren't getting enough attention so they have to try and get negative attention. Classic bullies

I've often said that Turtle is just a piece of shit human, not a shitty player, or "pest", where he is a good person off the ice. He is just a shitty human - the type of loser you would be annoyed with 10 seconds into a conversation. Great player for certain, but a complete waste of skin.

That’s not true.
The ticket sales before they became what they are now would tend to disagree. It’s the definition of a bandwagon fan base only support the team when they are winning. I’m sure there are some diehards but overall they are just the flavour of the month.

Obviously the ones on HF must be diehards. I’m speaking of the general fanbase.
