Post-Game Talk: The summer of our discontent

Panthers are so deep at forward you listed 7 and said 6. I've been saying throughout they have a stud topnine. We have a top 3.

To end playoffs the Panthers had an amazing 8 forwards with 18 or more pts. We Obviously only had 3.

Marchand, Bennett, Reinhart elevated because they smelled cup. Due to how they were hammering us with hits every game just getting the split in game 2 means they probably won series at that point. That was the blood. People say it was game 3, I have either. The Oilers got a good game one win and didn't realize the urgency that they absolutely had to win game 2. Soon as the Panthers got one W a SC championship club was going to go off. The long game was Panthes hammering us to oblivion. The Oilers only hope this playoffs was to try to win a short series. That was probably gone at game 2.

Game 4 meant nothing but allowing the Panthers to win at home. Which they wanted all along.
Someone posted after the Game 2 OT that whoever took Game 2 will likely win the Cup...

Problem is you need to be deeply familiar with both teams to recognize what the officials did here and how it impacted the series. I'll go to my grave knowing that if they just called every game like normal SCFs are called that the series would have gone differently. I still think we very likely ultimately lose, for the record, but we aren't limp to start Games 4 and 5 had the officials not impacted the series like they did.

Much, much more likely this goes 7 or maybe we even win if they didn't directly neuter our most physical asset and essentially dictate that we can't play aggressively to start games. What could have been a 7 game thriller got f***ed up because they decided they needed to "set the tone" by destroying the first period of the first few games. Disgrace.
I couldnt agree more and I rarely post about reffing unless its obviously disgraceful.
This series definitely qualifies.

Hopefully the boys have observed and bottled the humiliation of seeing Chucky and his mates mocking them by singing along to Pink Pony Club while swigging champagne. The ultimate insult.

AJ Greer changed the crowds chant from Lets Go Panthers to f*** The Oilers to the crowd at Elbo Room this morning. Nothing but pure class from this shitbag organization.

Kind of funny coming from the worst player on the team who added absolutely nothing in his five minutes per game of ice time. Just shut up and humbly be gracious that you got your name on the cup despite personally doing nothing to deserve it.

Last year was more hurt for me, this year is disappointment or more aptly bewilderment about how little they really pushed back in these last two games. I suppose disappointed too but more like, what exactly are we watching?

Oh well, looong off-season of questions ahead.

This.

Last finals I was crushed. This finals... shrug.

It was like being beaten by the Avs a few years ago. The better team won and we didn't have much of an answer. Yes this season's team was awesome but flawed.

Its not a strawman and makes me wonder if you know what that even means.

We scored zero goals until the final 4mins of the game when we were down 5-0. We literally can't say he lost us the game when we couldn't put a single puck in the net.

Your argument that we somehow are more competitive or score more in a do-or-die game for the Cup if its 0-0 vs 3-0 speaks more to the fact you probably give up in life at the first sign of resistance (if that's actually your mentality) than the actual fact that our team couldn't compete or keep up with their team across the board.

The fact that Skinner wasn't great AND our team didn't show up the last 2 games can both be true. They can be mutually exclusive events AND both be true... Not sure why several of you are so hell bent on saying Skinner lost us everything when we couldn't score in a sport that you need to score to win.

Hell, even McDavid said they kept "running our heads into a wall doing the same play over and over again and failing". But what does he know...

TL;DR - Skinner obvs wasn't great, but there are 18 other guys that also contributed nothing as well the last 2 games when they mattered most.

I mean, if you can't understand the fundamental difference in how a team plays when they need to win a game and how they play when they were spotted a two goal lead and just need to hold onto it then there is no point in me engaging in this.

Having slept on it I feel a bit more optimistic for next year. It will be challenging to upgrade the team but it should be possible. What im more optimistic about is that I think the guys are hungry and already want to get to work, last year was more of a shell shock that lasted all season, this season they were clearly worse than the Panthers and they know more what needs to change.
Its a looong way getting back there again but its definietly not out of the realm of possibilities, Oilers are right up there with the betting sites as the favorites again already.

Now we get to watch the Toronto media and talk shows do their victory laps about the leafs taking them to seven and insinuate that the Oilers suck.

I agree it was game 2 that lost us the Cup. The team completely changed after that game. Going that deep into OT and losing like that can really destroy a teams mentality.
But it was also critical in that a Crocodile club dragged us into the deep end even though it seemed as if we escaped that we were dead in the water. Connor McDavid played an insane 66mins in those two games and was belted continuously as was Drai. So that the Panthers got a split AND tenderized and obliterated our superstars with constant hits. I think it was game 2 the Panthers 4th line delivered 17 hits and most of them bonecrushers. Each player on that line did more than say Nurse or Kane who way more minutes. Pods had one hit in the same game.

This was our poorest regular season in several years. The team only got some traction due to additions like Walman Klingberg, and the return of Kane. That worked for two rounds then they would've sank but really Dallas was pathetic. Looked like Dallas were not that interested in winning. Only mauling.

I feel like a sucker for being pulled in. My take all along was the god wouldn't hunt. They did for awhile, but not when they faced a caliber club. We caught Vegas and Dallas on really bad playoffs.

Somehow Vegas top 5 regular season scorers couldn't beat our goaltending. Try to explain that.

Its a trap! ;)

The saddest part of this is that it's so easy to see why guys would want to play in Florida, or Tampa. There is literally zero pressure. You get accolades for a week or 2 then get to enjoy anonymity. Your name gets to go on the cup, so you'll get respect from real hockey fans and once a rebuild is needed, no one will expect anything from you. It's like a win-win-win situation.

Panthers were also playing with no pressure as they'd already won a cup and they didn't really think much about this one until Marchand, Jones came along. Then it became a possibility to reload. The pressure was all on the Oilers and as much as people think a loud rabid market is an advantage it can be something else too. The Oilers lost twice at home while having home ice advantage in series. Turned out it didn't matter and we didn't even get a home game for game 7 even though everybody had to pay dearly for that and probably months before the money gets refunded.

Somehow Vegas top 5 regular season scorers couldn't beat our goaltending. Try to explain that.

Vegas also lost some clutch playoff vets in Stephenson and Marchy, and Drai neutralized Eichel like the Panthers neutralized McDrai.

Also, Skinner got hot. He can do that if our D plays well and lets him get some confidence. The moment the D start wobbling though, he collapses like no goalie I've ever seen before or since. Skinner's good performances are a trap: we keep thinking he's finally turned the corner, and then he has another catastrophic collapse when we need it least.

He didn't totally implode last night, his only real major collapse was Game 3, which I expected due to him playing so much hockey in such a short amount of time. But he was the second-best goalie in pretty much every single game this series, and aside from game one, it wasn't even a discussion. As we said all season: riding Skinner is like playing Russian Roulette with your net.

And the Oilers took it lol. They can say and do whatever they want. We lost b2b finals to them, I personally just don't watch that stuff..
Like the Oilers wouldn't be doing the same. Watch Walman, Perry, Nurse, Kane throughout playoffs and especially in game 1 of this series. He who laughs last laughs the best. Of course advice lost on 3 of the above.

The Oilers team is arrogant and have been for a longtime. We changed when we got a bunch of players with kind of dirtbag reputations.

Trouble is when you add certain players for their skill sometimes you're getting baggage too. All of these players have it.

McDavid likely wins his cup, like Drai will, by forcing themselves onto a stacked southern team like Marchand did. Its likely the only way.

Easier to accept when Florida clearly better.

Get a f***ing goalie or get f***ed Stan.

Have a good summer friends.
I usually don't agree with much of what you post, but definitely have to agree with this. Stan better be beating the bushes for a competent starting goalie as one of his first points of interest.
