I'm tired of the excuses. They're just a better run team than we are and they wanted it more. People laughed at them when they traded for Seth Jones and he was arguably their best D-man in the playoffs.

Boy if only we didn't get all hot and heavy over Holland while looking at Zito...

With the cap going up, at least teams like the Panthers will struggle. They barely had more revenue than the Senators....after winning a Stanley Cup. They'll struggle to spend to the cap. There will be a time when the other owners get tired of funding and losing to welfare teams.

I wish you were right but I cant see it. They need to have a 2/3 majority to change revenue sharing if I recall. The Canadian teams in large part subsidize the no state tax sunbelt teams that keep winning cups yet we have less than 1/3 of the vote. So it will never happen.

Jones and Marchand additions were master class and may have been the difference. They were just a lock solid roster.

Could care less about anyone else. Doesn’t really matter though as our team is aged and too many holes to patch up. We definitely won’t be back to the finals next season (and if Florida is the opponent in the other conference then I would rather pass anyways)

Why would we keep Connor Brown? What a f***ing turd. A SC final all he does is skate round any zone with his stick up and his first mission being to avoid any physical contact. This guy showed up first 7 games of plaoffs and has been an absolute passenger since.

Kapanen I like but lets be honest he ain't much, and he ain't gonna be no answer either. Unfortunately Podkolzin falls in there too.

The reality is this forward lineup was the worst its been since early in McDrais career. So many of our forwards are just nothng.

Winning helps. Agents have become more savvy, and people won’t want to hear this but players have become more greedy.

If you have the choice between two competitive teams, they both offer the same contract but one has no state tax and the other is heavily taxed, who do you choose?

Gotta give credit where it’s due. That Panthers team is probably the best constructed and performing *team* I think I’ve seen in the cap era. 3 first lines, strong defense, elite goaltending, relentless forecheck and effort, and every man bought in and dialed in. The Oilers had a shot with Hyman, disciplined play, balls-out effort, and strong goaltending but they got none of that.

Hoping for some real change this summer.

No Salary cap until 2006. 50 million salary cap in 2008. The larger the contract the more you save….. salary caps almost 100 million now if every contract they save a million, it adds up on a winning team.

Connor Brown has speed and I thought he looked solid up until his head injury.

Kapanen and Podkolzin brought some good physical play (as well as youth and speed). Wouldn’t mind these guys in bottom line/depth role.

Team looked great for three rounds. Too old, too slow,too beat up to play 4 rounds. Bowman has a busy summer ahead with Bouch contract taking all the money. Several UFAs gone cuz they will get more elsewhere and very few options in Bakersfield. Florida showed us you need a 3rd line to contribute in a long run. We’ve got Henrique, Kane and Arvidsson with no trade contracts who aren’t cutting it.

Do you ever think that part of the reason people want to waive for those teams is because they're really well run? Do you think the Panthers would've given Jack Campbell and Darnell Nurse their contracts?

We did jack squat with our PP at so many key moments in this series. We had a 5 on 3 to put game 2 to bed and didn’t score. So many moments to get a big goal and just chose to play cute perimeter hockey.

I'll never quit on the Oilers but my interest in the overall league is waning. Already decided I wont renew my ST after 4 decades of having them when my contract is up and I have already sold over half my tickets for last 2 years. Ive paid enough into a league that has shown utter contempt for its fanbase and overt corrupt favouritism for sunbelt teams and LTIR cheating. As @Behind Enemy Lines has stated, the competitive imbalance is going to get worse not better over the coming years.

Have to give you a throw out as a first tier fan. Great respect to you sir for putting your money on the table each and every year for this franchise. Ownership didn't deserve this loyalty through an epic extended period of incompetence. I am glad that you (and we) have been gifted to watch McDavid and Draisaitl play at super human levels. Terrible shame this organization slipped on a banana far too many times in surrounding them with talent.

The Edmonton fanbase is different. And it's on the backs of peeps like you that have invested big bucks (need to be among the league's top ticket prices befitting monopolistic conditions) year after year.

Nobody ever mentions that to Bettman when he says the same excuse. (A day later Marchand completely contradicts him and says there is a huge advantage). The more money on the table, the larger the no state tax teams gain advantage.

Totally agree on the walman thing, I hated it then, I imagine that was fuel for the Panthers. Was completely and utterly unnecessary.

Walmans a dick. Most players hate him. You can see it on ice. Opponents get in his face anytime they can giving him extra. he got like 10 facewashes tonight. Like I say he's still jerking his Weiner and trying to mouth off opponents at 3-0 in third period. He kind of bugs me.

The trouble is the attitude of a Walman is only helpful if its drawing opponents in to penalties or getting them out of their game with antagonizing. But that doesn't occur.

You can have a certain amount of these players if they bring meaningful grit. But Walman wasn't doing that in series and he was leading the league in Jim Carrey facial expressions along with Nurse. The latter of which the Panther team were mocking and they sold T shirts.

On this team right now Walman, Nurse, Kane, Perry, even for what they bring, they're really easy players to hate for opponents. They're motivators. But of these only Perry motivates his own club. I'll give him credit.

Kane wasn't much in the playoffs and albeit I've been a fan we're just now seeing a worse version of Kane.

We were “stuck” overpaying for these guys because no one is coming/staying unless it’s an overpay
Zito literally has the pick of the litter when it comes to signings and trades…that matters
