Post-Game Talk: The summer of our discontent

Can everybody here stop blaming the goaltending? They goalies weren't great but so was the entire team past game 4. They don't even win these games with 2012 Jonathan Quick in net. There is something deeply wrong with the leadership core of this team, the way they folded in the last 2 games of this series in unacceptable.
We can't move Nurse and a bunch of guys have NMC's. Goaltending is probably the easiest position to upgrade in the summer and a must. We cannot go back to war with these 2 in net and expect a different result.

Incorrect. Panthers got 2012 Quick goaltending two years in a row and are back to back champs. If the Oilers got that same level goaltending, we might be having a different conversation. It’s not 100% on goaltending obviously, but they deserve some of the blame as well. Don’t fool yourself.

Done with this team and the league. Time to become a fairweather fan. No point in following this team or sport closely.

Nurse won Scholastic player of the year in the CHL 3 years in a row.

He's probably smarter than all of us here at HF. Not sure any of us are valedictorian material.
Books smarts don’t make one introspective. I’ve known many very “book smart” people that have the sensibility of lettuce, and a lower eq than Forrest Gump.

Anyways. My point is. I doubt nurse gives himself up.

We shall see

The HDSC were 14-5 in favour of the Panthers tonight. They were 9-3 Panthers in game 5. T

But yes, Quick level goaltending indeed.

Not 100%, but I’d say it’s about 80% goaltending and 20% on shit special teams.

I’d like to think Gulutzan and Stuart are given pink slips Friday.

That's fair, but lets be fair to the guy.

Rip his play on the ice, but he's certainly not stupid.
I would agree with that. He doesn't come across as stupid in interviews and he had great grades. Guy just doesn't process the game quick enough to make the $ that he's getting paid.

That Walman taunting of a Panther in game one looks pretty f***ing stupid now. Nurse was doing shit, Perry, Kane, the team got a whole bunch of arrogant on the basis of beating LA, Vegas and Dallas the latter two who only needed a stern push to fall down.

Something about over cockiness I'm sure ended up on the Panthers board after game 1. The series was never the same after game 1.

Theres some players on this team that may be good, or even awfully good, but aren't always keeping away from the taunting stuff. Not an aspect I love, no, not even from Drai who's toned it down.

Some of these players we acquired. you can like em for awhile but then the shittier side of them shows up. Walman had a questionable series being flat out walked on several goals still talking shit at down 3-0 in an elimination game. he's another Nurse level brainiac. The kind of guy you just want to hammer.

I get the f*** these guys attitude, but let's be real here lads. The Panthers were a really good team. 7 blatant high sticks went uncalled on the Panthers. The Bennett interferecne goal in game 1. The Bennett clearly shooting a defendants stick away goal in game 2. The refs getting in the way leading to a goal in game 3. The high stick to end the period and score a goal in game 4. The Bennett clear interference while trying to clear the zone in game 5. The clear too many men in double ot in game 2, the non offside, offside they called on McDavid to negate a chance in double OT as well. Not to even get into the plethora of interference and goalie interference that went on in the series. We were beaten by two teams here. Bummer we could'nt really get the scoring going in game 6 but, it is what it is. Clear missed trip when down 3-0 on McD again that which we've see goes against us for ten years. Just like the best drama ever made, which is better than the drama show the NHL just put on: The game is rigged. But you cannot lose if you do not play.

Boys, this show jumped the shark. It's time to stop watching. The only way things will ever change is if that happens. Bummer I won't be around for it. This was by far the most one sidedly reffed series I've ever witnessed. And I thought it was bad with the high stick goal from LA a few years ago. If you keep watching, at least please don't put money in to it and don't pay for a thing for this crooked league.

I think Nurse will be willing to accept a trade at this point

And like I said, it’s not 100% on goaltending. McDrai shoulder lots of the blame as well as the depth players. That double OT loss in game 2 killed whatever this team had. They quit playing the same after that game.

Maybe read the entire post before you reply.

I'll never quit on the Oilers but my interest in the overall league is waning. Already decided I wont renew my ST after 4 decades of having them when my contract is up and I have already sold over half my tickets for last 2 years. Ive paid enough into a league that has shown utter contempt for its fanbase and overt corrupt favouritism for sunbelt teams and LTIR cheating. As @Behind Enemy Lines has stated, the competitive imbalance is going to get worse not better over the coming years.

It will be interesting to hear what injuries were running through our team and how long some of the players might be out.
I don’t think anyone is too banged up surgery wise. RNH might need something done to his hand and Ekholm some time to rest. That’s about it.

97 and 29 just got owned. Did Draisaitl have a shot attempt tonight?
