Post-Game Talk: The summer of our discontent

WEll, not sure what to say folks. I wanted this SC win for the many fans that have never been around for one.

2nd best two years running and we've been weak in net since Skinner has been our starter.

Unforgiveable for the org, Bowman, to think we were set in net. The word is run by morons.

If someone offer sheets Bouchard, you take it in a heartbeat. Flip those picks in to players to help this team.
Trade Nurse and retain as necessary.
33,90,13,19,53 all can go. Too old, slow and ineffective.
Trade 74 if it brings you in a proven starter.
Perry was great this year but you can't keep him around for another year.
Can we please finally fire Dustin Schwartz.
Nurse. Has. A. Full. No. Move. Clause. And. Negative. Value.

We've lost to the cup champs what now? 4 times in a row now?
Avs, Knights, panthers, Panthers. Damn man .. what sort of curse is on this team.

It will get worse as the US provides the NHL with more and more talent and with that an absolute refusal by more US players to play in Canadian markets, even by newly drafted elite and semi-elite players.

US Colleges changing their eligibility rules is already starting to gut the CHL of elite talent and we are in year 1 of that change which will not help that.

That said they are planning to de-extinct the Dodo so there is hope.
Yes sir. I didn't add the changing player mix with increasing US talent (aided as well by Canadian players whose kids opt to play for them UGG!) and attitudinal changes that young players don't purely accept their circumstances willing to focus on their career and lifestyle choices. It's another growing trend I've commented on before with all of these considerations collectively tilting competitive advantage regardless what the Great Oz Bettman wants to sell the media and public. The NHL and all of these considerations are unique among N. American major pro sports.

Don't even get me started on the carpet bagging of Canadian Junior by the NCAA. Even more reasons for kids to choose not to play in small, secondary junior markets. All hail Dodo2.0. Would be a good name for Atlanta 3.0, the Atlanta Dodos.

2nd best team in every regard this year.

Their best players were better than ours and they outworked us handily.

I feel bad for Dallas, they lost to skinner and that’s got to really be baffling.
They fully deserve it for making this clown look like a goalie 2 yrs running. STrong argument to be had that two playoffs running the f***ing Dallas Stars were the mirage that allowed anybody to think that Skinner was a valid starter.

For years I've wanted the end of Skinner here. hopefully now.

Not a single penalty called in that game. By the same duo who killed the Oilers in game three. What a f***ing joke.

A Canadian team will never win the Cup with Bettman in charge. Hopefully the old f*** strokes out or something soon.
I was trying to ignore posts like this blaming Bettman but there’s just too many of them. You guys do realize that Bettman works for the owners right? He’s doing what they want. 25 American teams and only 7 Canadian teams. This issue isn’t going away when Bettman is gone. The next guy will run the league the same way he has. Canada hasn’t been important to the NHL for several decades and that isn’t changing.

I think with our big contracts coming up in the next couple of years, and even with the cap going up, that we may end up taking a couple of year break of being as competitive a team as we've been the past two years. Just too many holes to fill with not enough cap space. And then load up again in a few years when the cap and contract situations are more favorable for us. I expect us to still be competitive next year, but a rung below where we are now.

Well coming into the lineup will be

Hyman
Savoie

Leaving will be

Klingberg
Jeff Skinner
Probably Brown
Probably Kane
Probably Arvidsson
Depending on how badly hurt Frederic was he might be back if they see more potential
I can see Kapanen back on a cheap deal. I can see Janmark possibly end up in the minors.

Chance Kulak gets traded too
Minimum of one goalie is gone.

What am I missing.?

Savoie makes the big team for sure
All effort on getting younger and faster

Tomasek and Savoie will be on the team next year I expect. But one of Nurse or Bouchard cannot be on the team with 20M in 2 defenders. I think one of them will be gone. Bouchard gets you a haul back and the cap space to chase down a proper starting goalie with money retained via trade using the Bouchard assets and also try to get Byram who can backstop the powerplay and be more responsible defensively, but not nearly as dynamic offensively. (Ducks and covers from the incoming salvo). Cannot see where we have 2 forwards making 30 million and 2 defenders making 20 million and be remotely competitive until the cap is at 125M.

Honestly, might make sense for next year to be a gap year. Sell guys you can like Ekholm, Kane etc, try some younger guys in and swing hard for 26/27

Also I don’t think bowman did terrible on player management. Obviously goaltending needed to be addressed but Kapanen on waivers and Walman were good deals. I think Frederic just healed too slowly.
Its a fireable offense.

Not just because he didn't address the biggest spot in hockey, but because he said we were set and he didn't need to et a goalie. f*** him.

It is funny to think about Holloway, Foegele, McLeod and Broberg leaving. Players that would be (relatively) cheap and could contribute for several seasons.

Guys like Janmark Brown Henrique and even Perry you keep around after being permadrunk from sipping champagne from the Cup. It's the price of doing business, just ask Chicago Boston and Tampa.

Sucks but I had a feeling this was going to happen having watched Florida play against the Leafs and Canes. They are just too complete a team right now, it is what it is.

I think the people saying get rid of McDavid need to take a deep breath though. Teams don’t just trade or let a player walk of this calibre and expect to not get significantly worse. He went cold at an unfortunate time, but Florida played him as flawlessly as you possibly could.
Yes, exactly you wait generations for a mcdavid. God forbid we fix the actual problems here

Rough outline of changes that should happen:

GG out
Stuart Skinner out
Henrique, Arvidsson out
Kane out if upgrade is available
Coffey possibly out (I think he’ll choose to bow out)

Changes that should be considered:

Mark Stuart out
Ekholm trade if his decline is real

Change that needs to happen but won’t:

Nurse out

I’d actually sign Jeff Skinner to a cheapish contract but no way he’d want to come back.
