Post-Game Talk: The summer of our discontent

We wasted the best years of McDavid’s career already. Goal scoring declines rapidly late 20's and into the 30's.

The Campbell signing and the Nurse signing killed this franchise. Two best players in the game and no success. Never been done before in 110 years of NHL hockey.
The last ten years will go down as the biggest failure in the history of the league IMO

I assume Nuge broke his hand in the finals, Ekholm was never healthy and McDavid has something happen during the finals (but was off all year). Agreed, I hope they can recover.
Has to be some upper body muscular or ligament issue. His hockey IQ is way too high to have passed to lesser players on so many apparent scoring opportunities.

It’s crazy. These guys are the only reason the team is where it is

Give the Panthers some credit, they put on a clinic and are basically built perfectly the counter the Oilers

Even tonight McDavid was pretty much the only player creating any chances and people are calling for him to be stripped of his C or traded. I mean cmon

These guys have worked their balls off for this team and city we should be grateful
Nobody is necessarily blaming them, that's just the braindead poster's strawman.

But with that said they were outdone by the Panthers' best players.

It’s more realistic to move Nuge out instead of Nurse, I don’t see anyone taking Nurse. Also we’re probably still paying Arvidsson and Henrique, even if they’ve been demoted to the AHL.

They have full NMC. They cannot be demoted to the AHL. I sense a buyout coming for at least one of them and possibly a trade for the other.

The NHL officiating is rigged. Prove me wrong.

I don't want to hear another so called expert tell me officials don't influence the outcome of the games.
Can't, because it so clearly is. When you have a team like the oilers that are skill based and they're not getting opposition calls, they're not going to be able to generate much. If you can just hold, hook, and slash them all game, how do they even get started offensively? The league wants to move into a more offensive style to attract fans, yet rewards gooning it up and dirty play. It's a major disconnect that needs to be addressed.

I recall after the Oilers lost to the Isles back in 1983 when they had thought they played their best and gave it their all, and then walked by the Islea room, and saw what going the extra mile actually looked like in the players, and realized they needed a much higher gear. Despite a lot of empty words from our players this year, we clearly haven’t learned that lesson yet. FLA had a gear we couldn’t remotely even touch.
I’m not going to mention any names but I sure got tired of hearing certain players keep talking about how they still hadn’t played their best game in this series. After every loss that was their go to line. When I heard one of them say that again earlier today I knew they were losing tonight. These guys were out of answers after losing game 2. They caught Florida napping late in game 4 but they were never competitive after game 2. Thats what’s most disappointing to me.

Some of you guys are hilarious.

Crying like little bitches mid season saying they won't even make the playoffs then crying like little bitches that they should tear the team apart after B2B Stanley Cup finals. LOL.

We got beat by a better team and coach. But walked over everyone on the way here.

I knew when Hyman went down we were done this series. With him we had a chance. Ek @ 50% hurt too.

Change is needed. More youth and flush the bottom 5 players with some upgrades. And get a Goalie if we can find one.

Well now the NHL and PA are contemplating introducing a Playoff Salary cap

Such convenient timing
We'll see if that happens. Bettman and NHLPA are in love fest mode with the boffo league revenue growth. More big US markets like Atlanta 3.0 lining up to shovel huge expansion fees and more jobs/watered down product on the ice. Bettman's World is about the money and he's delivered massively for his cartel owners. The Canadian market is revenue cash cow feeding an increasing Americanized product. Seeing elite Canadian teams about each decade run at a Cup is getting more and more fleeting with big changes beginning to effect competitive balance.

I would 100% bring J Skinner back if he was willing to come back. He did really well in the playoffs actually. It’s not his fault the coach hates him
I would too, but I doubt they will. I think a big part of the issue is that Leon and Connor don't like playing with him. Those two have a lot of say in who they play with, and it sounds like they didn't feel he fit their style of play.

The not so secret secret of the Oilers is that our top 2 lines get 99% of the powerplay and offensive icetime. If you're not on the top 2 lines and you don't PK, you're usually playing 9-12 minutes a night. It's pretty difficult to do anything with that as an offensive player.

That game 5 will haunt this team for a very, very long time. Just an unacceptable performance.

I hope Mcdavid signs early in July just so we so t have to hear all summer about Mcdavid leaving.

I think one of Kulak or Ekholm will be gone to make cap room for a top 4 RD, Skinner+ will go in a trade for a goalie. Arvidsson and Kane traded. Special teams coach’s and Schwartz will be fired.

I’ve said the whole “leave money on the table” thing for years and years, and been consistently called out on it. I get that people want him to get his money, but if he gets 16 or something close to it, he’ll never win a cup
16m for sure not even a question about it. He fills the arena and makes Katz the $$.

Yup. Hyman was out, Ekhom was either injured or is done as an elite player, and we know these guys take steroids.

And anyone denying the blatantly corrupt f***ing officiating is a dishonest sack of shit.

Schwartz is 100% not getting fired.

lol show me where connor or leon ever said anything like this.

I was sad last year because I felt they emptied the tank. This year I am not as sad because I don't think they did. This year's team seemed MUCH more fragile than last year and accepted it more easily when things didn't go their way. They didn't adjust in game when things went bad, they simply accepted it and hoped to make a 4th line, bottom defensive pair, or goalie change to "fix" it next game.

Stuart Skinner.... He seems like a great guy. I sincerely wish him well in the rest of his career. That said, I think it is best for all involved if he moved on. He carries a lot of the burden of these last few years, fair or not doesn't matter right now. The first game next year when he lets in an early bad one or two, he will get dumped on. Yeah, I did it too so I am not throwing stones at others on this. I think it is best for Stuart Skinner the person and the goalie to start over somewhere else. I think the sky is the limit with this team if they ever get a goalie they are fully confident in. You can't simply run this goaltending back next year and expect a different result. That is the definition of insanity, isn't it?
Agreed all around. I was complaining about the low shots for the whole series, but the one that bothers me more the more I think about it is how the forecheck worked! When they had good pressure and hit, it opened up lanes in the offensive zone which created the time and space needed to get good scoring opportunities. But they did that for a couple of shifts a game.

He took a slash in the hand in game 1, misses a bunch of shifts and took maybe 5 draws for the rest of the series. Prob a broken finger
