Post-Game Talk: The streak... is over! - Habs win 4-2 vs Florida

Play Xhekaj as a forward Tuesday.

He would probably make a decent enough winger. Not sure that's what he wants though.
If we get 4 roster improvements we will be in incredible shape

1. Reinbacher to replace our worst RD (Savard)
2. Demidov to replace our worst top6 W (Newhook)
3. A new 2C to replace our worst top6 C (Dach)
4. A new top3 D to push down our worst top3D (Carrier or Matheson)

It's closer than it seems, we're halfway there!!

Caufield - Suzuki - Slafkovsky
Laine - 2C - Demidov
Newhook - [Dach] - Anderson
Heineman - Evans - [Gallagher]

defensemen is harder to pair up but we have: Hutson, Guhle, Matheson (top3), and then Carrier, Reino, and whoever is 6th and 7th.

It certainly seems better than when we used to "only" need a 1C, and a 2D.... And a 3D...and a #1 winger.

You're right, but he'd probably just like to play no matter what the position he's asked to play. Also, I may be alone on that, but I get the impression he's been stifling his own instincts all season long, which are more offensive than defensive, I think he may actually have fun playing forward and try to create offensively while destroying people at the same time.

Newhook just might be an adequate 3C with Evans on the 4th playing heavy defensive minutes. I'm thinking it will be hard to find one, let alone two, middle 6 centers.

Harder to find a chair for Dach IMO. He's been good at W two years ago so maybe as a big bodied skilled complementary middle 6 winger? Really not sure about his role going forward.

Suzuki is a gem and Hughes is right to say it would be shameful to squander his career. He's the 1C we've wanted all along but he needs someone to help shoulder some of the load.

I don't have much love for either Dach or Newhook but I can see both on the third line to start the season next year. I don't love it but like you say, we can't expect to acquire a 2C AND another middle6 C so it'll be fine to be pragmatic.

Should be an exciting summer... I hope we get some playoff action (or a good draft pick!!) before then.

Time to call up a real hockey player.

Roy and Pezzetta aren't going to cut it during this intense stretch run.

Maybe Kapanen could be an option if Timra is eliminated. He had a nice progression curve this year and isn't coming into a tire fire. The team lacks one winger right now, so he could be part of the answer.

Davidson or Condotta. We just need someone that can play a regular shift on the 4th line.

I'm fine with Heineman playing with Laine and Newhook. Even if he's not scoring, he skates, forechecks and hits.

Davidson should be it just cause I wouldn't take the captain out of Laval right now.

Missed the game, but ooof offense had to score 4 again to win, the 2 goals against were weak AF. They're lucky the goal that tied it 2-2 didn't kill them completely.

Let him get the Burns and Byfuglien experience, then move him back to D in a year or two. Or use him as a hybrid.
