Mackinnon’s third season in the NHL he finished the year with 52 points in 72 games.

Mackinnon’s fourth season in the NHL, he finished the year with 53 points in 82 games.

So, before his 5th season, Mac didn’t even made 55 points/year.

Slaf aready has a 50 points season and he is only in his 3th season.

Patience. It takes time.

What are the odds he’s the next MacKinnon?

Agreed.

All the more reason to just let him play with Caufield and Suzuki. Let him have success early and build his confidence. This is the way.

So what are the odds Slaf replicates Mack’s career? Do they play anything alike? (no)

I can see it happening because he showed amazing things last year… but the less he shows it the less likely it is…

Of course we need to practice patience, however I do have a couple concerns.

Personally, I think he's too big. I would love to see him lean out over the summer and try to drop 10-15lbs. He seems so sluggish out there, just no explosion whatsoever. Continue to work on his shot, like most young players.

I believe he's one of these new athletes where he needs coddling. He almost seems mentally fragile...like he's so had on himself he basically puts himself into slumps. Hopefully they can work on his mental game moving forward. Of course his complete level is a factor but I also believe that goes hand in hand with his confidence. He needs to find a better balance instead of the extreme highs/lows that currently follow him.

All solvable as I think he has the drive to work at everything. He's young, he's in a good situation with respect to resources being available to him. I just hope the outside noise from social media, regular media, fans, etc... doesn't overwhelm him.

MacKinnon had a rookie season of 63 pts.

It’s as if they’re willfully ignoring the elephant in the room: MacKinnon is both a rare sort of personality and a rare sort of talent and he was *underperforming* to expectations every year until he broke out. Slafkvosky was never expected to be a 100pt player, he’s had notable flaws to his game especially consistency and focus, and he’s basically got an unknown ceiling.

In addition to the fact that a majority of skilled players fall SHORT of their potential. MacKinnon is a very rare case but of course they have to bring it up, that’s the only way they can get away with not criticizing the player’s bad performances: just wait, he’ll be good… eventually… in the future!

The point is the organization has to do everything possible to get him going, and that includes demoting him from PP time etc. He needs to wake up and earn something for once in his NHL career.

What's his salary next year again ? Is it too early to be worried about his next contract ?

Can't blame Dach for everyone, man.

Slafkovsky isn't shooting the puck or moving his feet, regardless of which line he is on, that's of his own doing.

Yes! There's a bit of revisionism happening, he was struggling on the first line too

If anything, Dach's unbelievably poor performances have really covered his ass all season, Slafkovsky has been pretty bad and would be under a much bigger fire if it wasn't for the kirbster

Let’s see how he does in the first. And let’s see how Newhook does with Dach. He’s looked great recently so hopefully he can bring some energy to that line.

It's been a theme for both of them this year.. which is why if I was Marty, they'd be getting benched and bag skated consistently.

If you don't move your feet, you don't play.

If you don't skate in game, you are gonna skate like hell in practice.

He was off to a really nice start and got hurt. Then moved around the lineup…

Is he modeling his game after Armia? That's who he looks like. Slow, unwilling to get in the play physically, misses the net,
