His peak speed on NHL edge is barely under last year (and it is still above league average). Even his average distance per 60 is barely under last year (14.58 vs 14.70 km, the difference is basically 1 shift per game).

Slaf is just not bursting, it's not that he can't.
I keep hearing that he needs to keep his feet moving...why isn't he?

He was already for a long stretch last year.

But we have to think about him as an elite complementary player vs a play driver.

Demidov is the play driver, we probably need another one, could be Hage, could be Dach, could be someone we draft this year.
Is kinda sad if you think about. A first overall pick being a elite complementary player. 2022 has a very weak draft. I know is very early. I hope is just a bad start of the season and he goes beast mode in 2025.

Don't hate...just posting a video :)

It's kind of hard to believe these guys are getting paid to give the equivalent of twitter's takes. :shakehead

He is just not ready to be a play driver at NHL level, but he will get there in 2-5 years. Not even Bedard, generational talent is play driver now.

Almost none of the Covid-era kids are off to good starts to this season. I think that’s worth noting.

Bedard
Slaf
Beniers
Johnston
McTavish
Gauthier
Carlsson
Fantilli
Smith
Wright

Frankly outside of Michkov, Guenther, Eklund, Celebrini and maybe Cooley none of young guns are off to good starts.

No excuse though, Slaf needs to be much better.

Least amount of ice of any Habs forward tonight... which included 3 plus minutes on the PP.

I really think they are going to have to change coaches for the good of everyone but who is available and who wants the job?

sad the kid did not even come out last night and try hard.
then he sits and now waits for this 8 mil

he better figure it out or this is a disaster
he is young, but effort defines a person.
Which game did you watch? I was just watching Utah game and he had 3:13 PP time where spends it screening in front of the net with basically zero puck touches. Still had one good pass to Suzuki from the goal line. Then he had 8:16 of even strenght where he created good scoring chance for Armia in the 1st. Fighting for the puck, backchecking and nailing 5 hits. What did you really expect from him having Dach and playing 4th line minutes?

then why was he benched then? because of Dach?

Because Slaf is the youngest player on the team at this point. He's not playing any worst than anyone else on the team and things are only degrating since MSL decided Slaf should be the only player who gets benched for low efforts and/or bad plays...or whatever he's getting benched for at this point. Hard to tell.
