The Sins Of The Buffalo Sabres In The Last 15 Years, List Them...(One Per Post Please)

Interesting timing on this thread/post, JW had a mini rant about Botts this morning:

The Jeremy & Joe Show - Why Does Jason Botterill Keep Getting Chances In the NHL?

And they only mentioned a fraction of Botts' f***ups...
I just listened and couldn't agree more. The only two redeeming things he did was say "Rasmus Dahlin" and then having Tage be in the O'Reilly deal. He couldn't get Thomas in the deal and then proceeded to try and trade Tage for a 5th ...

This is also the man to traded the first pick in the 6th round to a division rival for their 6th round pick the next year, which ended up being 21 picks later.

I can't think of a positive thing he did except say Dahlin's name at the podium.

Everyone also forgets that he built a last place roster that also had a cap overage. Mind boggling...

Anytime someone tells me that KA is the worst GM in the league, I simply ask "Oh, did he hire Phil Housley and then Ralph Krueger to intentionally destroy a franchise?"

Just to point out that the pick - which there were people saying "oh, that's nothing" at the time when another team had dealt multiple pieces in that same draft to move up - is playing in the playoffs with the Leafs tonight. Pontus Holmberg.

Trading for the corpse of Matt Hunwick with a condition that they would give up more if they moved him off their roster.

I think it has been mentioned already above, but the hit on my Miller by Lucic with no response but harsh words was the start of it for me. Gutless, chicken shit team.

This is the best answer, and winner.

11-Oct-2020 signing Taylor Hall for 1 year, $8M, with the owner declaring "We're not only trying to make the playoffs, we're trying to win the Cup". Hall then played only 2/3 of the season. Despite spending most of his time sliding down the left wing boards on his belly after entering the offensive zone, Hall did manage to score 2 goals in those 37 games. Hall was either the rich man's or COVID version of Ville Leino.

Russ Brandon being totally skeevy and getting fired for it.

While we’re at it, Russ Brandon being assigned to run anything related to the Sabres.

Kevyn and Terry low-balling Ullmark and Reinhart in the summer of 2020. Leading to a 2021 where they lost Ullmark for literally nothing, and were forced to trade Reinhart.
Underrated and seldom talked about Kevyn Adams drought extending move in the same vein as the above…. Letting McCabe walk for nothing in the 2021 offseason.

Yeah I know that McCabe had blown up his knee at the time, but he’s been a pretty average top 4 defensive D-man his entire career. And Adams has yet to find his replacement.

I loved McCabe, but I can't remember a single person other than myself that advocated for McCabe as a viable defensive defenseman. He was one of the biggest whipping boys with fans continually wanting to shoot him into the sun. "If he's a defensive defenseman why is he so bad at defense" was repeated ad nauseum on these boards.

Add him to the long list of guys like Paille, Foligno, Hagel, etc where the hindsight takes don't match the opinions at the time said player was a Sabre.

McCabe was one of my favorites.

To this day I am surprised he didn't do better offensively. He had some great offensive instincts in the offensive zone.
