Post-Game Talk: The Sieve We Know

Didn’t Stolarz play for the Oilers once upon a time?
Yes, although that isn't the lesson here. The Leafs didn't have optimal goaltending so they tried different guys. If our management would have been running the Leafs they would have rode it out with Samsonov and Jones, because goalie talent isnt real. They are just a product of their defense, right?

Stolarz largely came out of nowhere to put up this level of play, he was just the pure back up down the run for the Panthers. Though Woll is better than Stu by a a bit as well

Yes but if Stolarz was bad, they would have brought in someone else until someone hit. They also spent the time and effort in pro scouting to get the best gamble possible.

The Leafs have a system that was practically guaranteed to find a great goalie fit for them eventually.

I'd even compare Skinner to Woll. What would Woll be like without a truly great 1B with him? Maybe he'd have too much focus on him and develop bad habits

Mattias Ekholm might be the most underrated player in the league, certainly the most underrated dman.

I don't think EDM has a shot in the dark even in this round without him.

They are str8 pretenders without that dude back there, when you consider the backstop and rest of the 'defense'ive players in that group

But what was the excuse for not addressing the net during this season? Look at what the Colorado Avalanche and GM Chris MacFarland did. They weren’t happy with Alexandar Georgiev and Justus Annunen’s play early on, so they went out and got Mackenzie Blackwood and Scott Wedgewood, not letting an acquisition cost including prospect Nikolai Kovalenko and a second-round pick deter them from their goal of pursuing a Stanley Cup this season. Colorado got some of the best goaltending in the league out of their new tandem from that point onward. The Oilers got some of the weakest overall goaltending in the NHL all season.

You can’t walk into a postseason as a true Stanley Cup contender with a team that finished 19th in save percentage at .897 this season – especially after the same two netminders gave you just a .904 combined mark the season before and a .902 postseason SV% during your run to Game 7 of the Final.
It was glaringly obvious that the Oilers needed to improve their goaltending even it meant getting creative with their cap space, and they failed to do it. The letdown of Game 1, in which they controlled 54.67 percent of the 5-on-5 expected goals and still lost, is on the front office. They’ve made their bed.

Wow.
That's kind of....it!

I wanted Gibson too because I was that desperate, but I understand the hesitation. He is always getting injured
Yeah and the fat contract. But with the injury you have to wonder if it's more a way of getting out of playing cuz we know he has wanted out for a few years now🤷‍♂️

Here is a slower video I made of the goal.

Common sense. If a shot is coming and there is an opposing player DEAD IN FRONT OF YOU, the puck will hit him if it is going STRAIGHT.

This dimwit HAS TO MOVE HIS HEAD left or right to look around him and move his body left or right. NOT SIT DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF Foegele. That is just logic.

Look at this confused idiot

I also love how Bouch is not even attempting to block the shot or cross check Foegele

Meanwhile Bouchard is backing his ass out of the shooting lane.

In all fairness that was 6 years ago and I dont think he has even played 100 NHL games in those 6 years since
Oh I’m not suggesting we f***ed up . No one knew what he was back then. But thats the issue, having a quality goalie assessment function MIGHT have recognized something. This org has all the resources in the world available to it and they have an AJHL goaltending failure leading the department. They could do so much better.

lol ya, like I said. He is just at the bus stop there watching He hustles back and is right there and does....Nothing. He should have smoked Foegele there in the ribs or back and shoved him out of the way

That urgency/whatever you call it thing is not in his head. That's what he is

Stauffer has grown his brand as a local social gadabout, semi-influential national media hockey personality with his hits on other national pods, and as an occasional SN intermission guest, and resident rum sucker at Pub 1905. Good for him.

But it’s becoming a schtick for him just to say shit for the hits and not offend the inner circle at the same time. Every time he suggest the Oilers are looking at “mystery player” so and so, hint hint, I just tune out. It’s not facts at that point just schtick.

When he writes his book, “All Things He Knew and Couldn’t Say” I’m gonna take a pass. It’s clear most of it will be bullshit. Unless I need to prop up the corner of my bed or something.
Wow... Brent!!!
His sequel 'medchicken&rum..... a tree planting super lunch' is the one I'm looking for
