Post-Game Talk: The Sieve We Know

Too bad it takes a Draisaitl dressing down of his teammates followed up by an immediate goal to get these clowns going after 39 minutes of shitty low intensity hockey.

You’d think the coach might have thought about it after getting hammered 4-0 and seeing Skinner and Bouchard playing like total morons as usual but noooooooo, that’s too much emotion for him to show. Must. Be. Disciplined.

Knoblock just stands there with his hands in his pockets wondering why he dressed Josh Brown and if it might rain tomorrow and spoil his morning walk. The guy is literally a corpse on the bench.

Knoblach doesn't have any fire in him, coaches like a statue back there

Both goalies were ass in this game. That 2nd goal that Kuemper allowed he makes 4 mistakes in one sequence and is completely shitting his pants. he never stopped. Bad game by kuemper.

But that winning goal by Danault. Skinner should f*** off. What a way to lose. This is WHY we should've pulled goalie at 4-0.

credit the team for coming back and Skinner for handing the game to LA. Hang your head in shame you f***ing doorknob.

That is the silver lining. Kuemper was absolute trash...

Even McDavid's heroic goal, we all celebrated like "it's McDavid, of course it's going in", but did anyone notice just how terrible Kuemper was on it? He goes down in RVH in a situation where he really shouldn't/needn't and that exposes a 5-hole that didn't need to be there at all... not to mention not having his stick in position to cover the 5-hole OR poke the puck off McD... and he essentially deflected it into his own net (it was going wide far side until Kuemper's pad nudged it back on net) . All he needed to do there was a proper butterfly to prevent a jam play and if McD manages to cut across (because it's McJesus) he'd still have a chance to: a) poke check, and b) make a quick push across (or with his size, even just a stretch would force McD to make a miracle happen).

Stuart Skinner wasn't great last night, but he also wasn't as bad as most of ya'll are saying. I feel like it's a lot of frustration coming out because we didn't upgrade the position.

- The team didn't show up for 40 mins...... It was MEN vs boys for the 1st two periods
- Bouchard literally gave up 3 goals....... Turnovers, awful effort on last goal.

Stuart Skinner is a whipping boy here and 100 % deservingly so, but he battled last night and he gets the start Wednesday. I doubt Picard does any better last night tbh

Nobody is denying it was idiocy not to upgrade in net, but putting this loss all on Stu is a bit of a joke.

I'm not convinced Skinner has object permanence let alone elite tracking. If he gets screened or the puck goes behind the net it's like he forgets it exists.
I agree. It sort of shocked me to hear Gage say these things. But I am fully willing to admit that I know almost nothing about goaltending.

Skinner was bad. And all of us knew that was the case. Knob didn't. And I'm waiting for the playoff messiah Bouchard to surface. He's been bad all year. I think he peaked last year. If we had any other dmen that could play, I'd probably bench him

You left out goals 2, 5, and 6. Why?
Stoppable pucks unrelated to horrendous give-away, guys laying below the goal line, standing in the corners, &/or bang-bang shot pass goal on the PP.

Good that you acknowledge 1/2 the goals weren't horrible mistakes by the EDM goaltender

I get it, it was a tricky shot but, like you said, he tends to make him smaller and he has zero spatial awareness. When you combine the lack of awareness and lack of athleticism, it's a killer combo. When Skinner is at his best, he's just being big in net and letting pucks hit him. I'm really not sure what he was doing on that final goal, it was bizarre.

He just completely lost sight of it so he went into butterfly as a defensive position. If Danault made full contact with the puck, it literally would have hit Skinner in the chest. That wasn't the mistake... the mistake was failing to fight around that screen... on the replay you don't really see him crane his neck or fight through it at all... need more fire than that Stu.

But jeezus H Christo Bouchard was giving the puck away all night and on two of the goals against we had FOUR guys at or below the goal line with the slot wide open... what on earth is that!!

Officiating was bad...both ways.

Bouchards gift up the middle or Walmans dumbass roughing penalty cost us this game. Take your pick

Yeah he’s not great. If only the smartest guys that get paid millions of dollars recognized it. But they didn’t. And when they finally do it’ll be too late. Skinner sucks, happy now? If only y’all hated the way this team was run as much as you do Skinner.
Dude, everyone already agrees management messed up. You're making these weird strawmen all the time.

And then you try to double down by talking about Taylor Hall (wtf?) as if that has anything to do with current management.

I have been a critic of our goalie situation but I think the criticism is over the top. Whenever the other goalie is just as bad or worse, then you can't really blame the goalie. Let's not forget that Kuemper came into this series with a reputation as a great goalie, and a huge advantage for the Kings. Everyone agreed on that.

Sometimes games have that character where goals just go in. It's a weird thing that defies measurement.

My big thing with goalies is that you have to compare them. To judge a goalie on a team, compare them to other goalies on the team. When judging a goalie in a game, compare them to the other goalie.

Overall, Skinner came in with a reputation as an average or bad goalie and Kuemper had elite stats at home. We shattered that.

Maybe they put Pickard in for a game. I could see that. I'm hoping that last game continues into the next because the Kings were broken.

While yes, it can be harder to read a flubbed shot, the puck literally hits the middle of the net.

That's because it was a complete looping change up knuckle puck. If Danault could make that happen even one more time deliberately he'd win a Cy Young.

If he connected on it, it would have hit Skinner square in the chest and we'd have found a way to leave a man open in the slot in OT.

And yes, the way his night was going, Skinner wouldn't have saved that either, but at least we'd be pointing to the repeated structural issue we had with our D-zone coverage all night... regardless of which below average goalie we play, we are going to have to clean that up to have any chance in this series.

This is what bothered me the most about it. It's like he was resigned to losing sight of the puck and sort of gave up on it. All he had to do was throw up his blocker or jump up at least a bit after he lost sight of the puck to cover more space so there's a better chance of the puck luckily hitting him but instead he stayed crouched down looking utterly confused, there was no battle level no urgency. Say what you want about Pickard's physical shortcomings and they are a big hinderance for him but he would have battled like hell to block that puck.

I know I posted about Game 1 being similar to the first game against Calgary in 2022, but Game 1 goal scoring craziness is baked into this team... Calgary, Vegas, Vancouver, and even last year vs LA

I can understand this argument. Kuemper really should have had 2 of our 5 goals.

Where I think the criticism comes from is this is a repeat problem of Skinner having zero lateral speed nor athleticism. The 5 on 3 goal was a normal cross ice pass on a PK and he still could not make it to the other side of his net. On the game winner he drops and waits for it to hit him.

The bigger issue, as I think has been mentioned earlier in this thread, is not him specifically but that management has not made it a priority to upgrade him. This will, and maybe already has, cost us any chance at a Cup. Need Pickard to go on a heater.

I think Bouchard got a bit lucky last last year. The signs of his downfall were there.

He's 1 a one trick pony and teams have figured out how to play him.

He still shit out 3 points last night for all you Bouchard stat lovers...........

You are right tho. No way he will be that player again.
