Well Skinner was downright awful and pissed away an epic comeback by McDavid. Bouchard had a bad game, but he's capable of being a lot better than that. I see no reason not to start Pickard on Wednesday.
Overall team played pretty bad and still almost won that thing. Reminiscent of previous game 1s against LA. Kuemper and the LA defence is not an unbreakable wall. Hopefully Kane in next game to smash these guys around a little bit.
Absolutely laughable officiating not once, not twice, but three times. First they call a shoulder to shoulder hit an "illegal contact to the head" penalty. Then they call a cross check to the chest with an Oscar level head flip by Danault (after ignoring Byfield punching McDavid in the back of the head). And to top it off they signal "deflected off the glass" on Walman's penalty, change their mind, and then screw up the video review when it clearly changes direction and spin off the glass. What an embarrassment that was, but again not really anything out of the norm to what I'm used to.
Hope the team comes out flying in game 2. This Kings team isn't any better than previous years, but the Oilers have some interesting hurdles with injuries and Skinner going full sieve in net this year. McDrai can still win this series themselves if the goaltending and defensive errors can just tighten up a bit.
