Any thoughts on Pat Ferschweiler, WMU's head coach, for the Ducks? He just won the NCAA championship and has two former players on the team in Colangelo and Washe. Fershcweiler has had four year in the NHL as an assistant coach with Detroit, 2015-19. What is interesting is that he's not young. He is 55 years old and still knows how to relate to the youth. Pat had revived Colangelo's scoring prowess that was lost in his time with Northeastern.
I have nothing to go on other than gut, but to me, it would make more sense for Beeker to promote/hire McIlvane than to go with any college coach not named Carle.
Carle is the shiny new toy everyone is talking about, you'd risk the experience for someone with that kind of "heat" behind them. Other than that, Id put my money on a guy the front office put some faith into and at least to have had a plan for as opposed to a college coach without as much interest.
I would also think Beeker may shy away from an "older" coach who has only ever been an assistant coach in the NHL, mainly just due to recency bias.
All just assumptions and my gut feel. I would expect either Q, Woodcroft or Carle at this point with maybe McIlvane bringing up the rear.
(Fast forward 3 weeks for me to be completely wrong)
