Speculation: The search for a new Head Coach - Rumors and Speculation

Any thoughts on Pat Ferschweiler, WMU's head coach, for the Ducks? He just won the NCAA championship and has two former players on the team in Colangelo and Washe. Fershcweiler has had four year in the NHL as an assistant coach with Detroit, 2015-19. What is interesting is that he's not young. He is 55 years old and still knows how to relate to the youth. Pat had revived Colangelo's scoring prowess that was lost in his time with Northeastern.

I have nothing to go on other than gut, but to me, it would make more sense for Beeker to promote/hire McIlvane than to go with any college coach not named Carle.

Carle is the shiny new toy everyone is talking about, you'd risk the experience for someone with that kind of "heat" behind them. Other than that, Id put my money on a guy the front office put some faith into and at least to have had a plan for as opposed to a college coach without as much interest.

I would also think Beeker may shy away from an "older" coach who has only ever been an assistant coach in the NHL, mainly just due to recency bias.

All just assumptions and my gut feel. I would expect either Q, Woodcroft or Carle at this point with maybe McIlvane bringing up the rear.

(Fast forward 3 weeks for me to be completely wrong)

What about DeBoer if Colorado should win ? I mean Pete been passed around the NHL like a bong at a stoner's retreat but he has won everywhere he has gone. :5:
Hard no on my end. Don't think DeBoer's style and approach really fits the youth on this team's roster. Ideally, you'd like a guy who is on the younger side of things. Maybe someone who already has some degree of experience but still has room to grow.

32 thoughts this morning only made very brief mention of Anaheim coaching search and it was associated with Q.

I think we all need to make peace with this happening. Seems like a foregone conclusion to me at this point. Way too much smoke.

This is pretty disingenuous. Friedman repeated the identical stuff that was said before. Nothing has changed. The only statement was that Quenneville is a real candidate for the job, and it's not just to be nice.

I agree with this based on the information we have. We know those those three have been connected to the team. My hope is that it's either Woodcroft or Carle with Quenneville as an assistant. My gut says Carle is not in the NHL next season, Woodcroft is hired by another team and crushes it, and the Ducks hire Quenneville, and it's a mess. But who knows. I'm just glad it seems like they want it figured out quickly.

The point wasn’t necessarily that they said anything new. It’s that it’s yet another report linking to one name and one name only.

Woodcroft may be a good choice, but the thought of seeing that double chin behind the bench for the next 2 to 4 years is daunting!

Why promote McIlvane? McIlvane hasn't done much the past two seasons in San Diego. I'm kinda bummed about McIlvane b/c I was on that hype train since his first interview being the Gulls head coach.

If you have interest in Carle, then you should have interest in Ferschweiler. Anaheim has two of his kids in their system in Colangelo and Washe. Again, not saying he should be a front runner, but if Verbeek is truthful about casting a wide net, then leave no stone unturned.

I think the number of openings forces teams to move quickly on a few of the best ones.

The one advantage, finally we have something, is I’ve seen rankings that put the Ducks as the top coaching destination.

That might keep the prospective candidates wanting to wait for a decision. But for none will wait too long and miss out on another good opportunity.

I think signings are rarely on weekends, no?

I hope it will take some time. Otherwise, it sounds like that Q is the furthest in the process so if we talk today, the most realistic pick. I hope others emerge on top and we pick someone else instead
I don’t disagree with you per say but the things we’ve heard said the Ducks are the furthest along in the process, whether it’s Q or otherwise.
