Speculation: The search for a new Head Coach - Rumors and Speculation

What the hell is RG Media and who is Jimmy Murphy? I have a hard time believing this. I'm a bit worried though.

I don’t know either (but I’m also very skeptical towards insiders that aren’t/weren’t McKenzie/Feiedman/LeBrun), but he seems to be staking his credibility on this report.

This is also the type of story where it’s a killer to not have an ace journalism department or any sort of media presence in this market not affiliated with the team that’s willing to do some digging. Derek Lee is the man and he might get there, but he doesn’t have the clout yet to get that sort of info

I've got some serious mixed feelings, if true. I'm both excited and uncomfortable at the same time.

I've always though Q has been an incredible coach, but I just don't know how I feel about him being allowed back in the league... and especially the Ducks.

Well if this is true, this is a stain on this organization. They already get no respect and this just makes it worse. I’ve always thought the Samuelis were great owners who kept the Ducks in Orange County and created close ties to the community and grassroots hockey, but they will loose so much of that built up goodwill. Winning isn’t everything especially at the expense of compromising your ethics.

I just don’t think Pat is one to be concerned with niceties and doing what’s politically correct, he’s definitely a pretty brusque character and will continue to be about other stuff too.

If true, I will now have a new team to actively root against. Sorry, just how I feel. The dude was told he had one of HIS staff assaulting one if not two players, and his gut instinct first response was to want the distraction to go away. He's just a coward, and a moral midget.

And again if true, PV and the Samuelis can go screw themselves. I'll hope every good young player I like ends up somewhere else and succeeds wildly.

Perversely, I think that hiring Quenneville would actually improve our standing with the league establishment.

If the article linked is true and Q is being honest, he apparently didn't fully know what was going on. The fact he had an inkling and did nothing with that info is concerning. But you have to believe our upper management did a lot of sleuthing and potentially have info we don't right?

I have no mixed feelings about this and anyone who was critical of the Blackhawks ownership and the way the league handled this shouldn’t either otherwise they’re hypocrites. Quenville should not be coaching in the NHL after what went on in the Blackhawks locker room.

I think part of the mixed feelings thing is: it feels like some people have some extra info that some of us are missing. For example: if it's a settled fact that Q knew exactly what was going on and covered it up.

The players knew and it seems pretty unbelievable that the coach wouldn’t have some idea of what was going on.

It’s the Joe Paterno thing all over again. He technically didn’t do anything illegal, but he still didn’t use his standing as a highly respected figure within the league or the organization to make a positive difference.

I’m on the lower end of posters here when it comes to taking staunch stances, and even for me, though I wouldn’t abandon my fandom, at best, the potential hire makes me incredibly uncomfortable. I totally understand people who would take a few years off or even put fandom aside indefinitely

The Jenner & Block report is very explicit in that he knew about the accusation, but simply wanted nothing to do with dealing with it.

Your direct underling may have assaulted a player, if your first response is to worry about hockey ... well let me just say, if I were a player I'd request a trade immediately.

Ty for the name drop on the report, reading time.

How has no one more credible picked this up or added anything to it. Would think they would’ve by now if it were true. Hard to think of it coming out like this with how the tight lipped the organization usually is

It would sure be nice if it just wasn't true and we can forget about it.

Edit: the hiring rumor I mean

Yikes, you still have time to delete this.
I’m fine, duality of man. I don’t want Q. I also don’t think anyone here can cast the first stone. People on this sub, cheat, I’m sure some of you have abused domestic partners either emotionally or physically. That is worse than what Q did in my opinion. I’m sure everyone on this sub, knows someone who has cheated. Did you go tell their partner ? Or did you cover up their crime ?

To me the damning parts:
Regardless of when Cheveldayoff believed the meeting occurred, Cheveldayoff recalled being in a meeting in McDonough’s office regarding Aldrich with others in senior management, including McDonough, Bowman, MacIsaac, and Quenneville. He recalled the group was told that there were allegations that Aldrich was socializing with players outside the arena, Aldrich sent inappropriate texts to players, and Aldrich made unwanted advances on players. Cheveldayoff recalled that John Doe and Black Ace 1 were specifically referenced during the meeting.

...

Bowman recalled that, after learning of the incident, Quenneville shook his head and said that it was hard for the team to get to where they were, and they could not deal with this issue now

And apparently there was a follow up phone call between Q and the confidant. So he was well aware of what was going on.
