His hockey iq is very good. At the end of the last game he jumps up into the other zone with no consern as it was too little time for any counter attack if it should happen. The other defenseman just stood there in the back watching.

Ryan Murray

This is the Ryan Murray Appreciation Thread.

This 19 yr old rookie defensemen has been a ray of golden light. He has been making intelligent decisions, learning on the fly, and showing incredible maturity.

He plays with strong body positioning and steps up to contribute offensively at times. The kid will be a man and then will be a BEAST.

Reminds me of Nik Lidstrom. Share your love.

The kid is great and I think he will be the next Blue Jackets captain.

I also see Nik Lidstrom in him. Those are the thoughts that get you very excited about the future in Columbus.

Just a little "Cart before the Horse" going on here. There is no doubt that Murray has performed well. In fact better than well, he has been outstanding. Well beyond his years and experience.

BUT....

Let's do remember that he is 20 yrs old and has played a grand total of 18 NHL games. I'm not saying he doesn't deserve credit for what he's done, let's just remember that the sampling is very small. There have been many "next ones"; most recently see Tyler Meyers, the entire cast in EDM and others. Let's just be glad he plays for the Blue Jackets and enjoy watching him grow into what we all hope he can become.

And as far as the Captain discussion, flavor of the moment two years ago was Umberger, Last year it was Johnson, right now it's Dubinsky. Let's just let him play hockey, anything else is ludicrous.

I appreciate him for doing his job? Uhh... I guess.

Yeah man, i totally agree with this. This 19 or so year old defender is just playing good nhl hockey thats what he was drafted for. Im gonna reach a real edgy limb here but i dont have an opinion one way or another on this kids play. Hes out there and getting paid for it, enough said.

I guess it's easier to fill up threads if a guy isn't living up to expectations compared to exceeding them.

Murray has been extraordinary. The fact he's being paid has nothing to do with that - everyone with a contract is paid. Others are paid as they develop and we forgive their mistakes because we expect them. It doesn't seem outlandish to me to recognize a player for playing well ahead of his years.

I dont see how we send him down at this point. He is CBJ best Dman IMO. He deserves to be here and he deserves all the minutes he is getting because of his play. Coach staff is doing a good job with him and I think the sky is the limit for this kid. Very impressive.

One of the few things I have been excited about this year. He looks like he could grown into a future Norris Trophy candidate. Plays well in all three zones and his shot is much, much better than I would have expected. I love this kid.

It's not a Johanssen thread but he's up there right now too. Still has some growing as a player to do but the light appears to be on and he is another bright spot.

He's living up to expectations for a #2 overall pick, who could have easily been the #1. I'm sure the Preds are sporting a Seth Jones appreciation thread.
