The ROR Beatification Station and Exclusion Zone (Discussion of ROR trade goes here!)

I tried searching the previous iteration of this thread but had difficulty finding anything, so apologies if this has been discussed to death.

Did Housley cost us O'Reilly?

O'Reilly of course has culpability for the fractured relationship.

But if we had a coach that wasn't a tire fire with a ****ty system, would O'Reilly still be here?

Heck, it's how many coaches that it didn't "work out" with O'Reilly, but O'Reilly seems to be doing just fine this year.

How much of it is the lockerroom leadership? Does St Louis having a veteran captain make the difference?

tl;dr What would the right conditions have been for O'Reilly to have worked out "better" in Buffalo?

It’s possible if they had a competent system and more balanced use, they win more games and they are happier overall. Maybe there is something else to the move, maybe wins create a more harmonious room and he isn’t moved.

So what.....? You didn't live the Colorado drama... we did.

He's known as O'Money around here.

And he's with a Division rival now....

I loved him in Buffalo. New beginning. Leadership role. Productive. His performance at locker clean out was pathetic. And a performance IMO.

Why should I care about his happiness?

No, that's not what he's known as. He's known as the guy who exposed our GM as being one of the worst in the league by fooling Botterill into trading him for pennies to a contender.

Going with an all Game of Thrones cast.

ROR - Kristofer Hivju (Tormund)
Jack Eichel - Jack Gleason (Joffrey)
Sam Reinhart - Iwan Rheon (Ramsay)
Conor Sheary - Peter Dinklage (Tyrion)
Terry Pegula - Julian Glover (Maester Pycelle)
Kim Pegula - Sybel Kekilli (Shae)
Ralph Kreuger - Charles Dance (Tywin Lannister)
Jason Botterill - Conleth Hill (Varys)

Feel free to add more
Nathan Gerbe is Dinklage

Are you saying the locker room comments were a weird indirect way to get Botterill to trade him? You're not serious about that part, right?

I'd like to know what made this trade happen and why the trigger was pulled on O'Reilly. Any investigative reporter from the Pegula-bought Buffalo media brave enough to break ranks? Why wasn't there a clause, as some teams have, that if St. Louis wins a cup and O'Reilly is MVP, that Buffalo should get even more. The trade, which included salary dumps and 3rd and 4th choice rookies seemed forced somehow and I'd like to know if it was forced by ownership. Of course that'll never happen but there should be reckoning for this monumental error.

The frustrating part is that everyone knew it was a monumental error even before the trade was made, when rumors were swirling.

It's unreal. I mean does this team actually have scouts who watch guys they are thinking of acquiring to see if they are any good? They literally could've watched ANY Blues game from the prior season and seen that only a crazy person would trade a player of ROR's quality for them. This organization is a complete joke.

I'd be looking at the work of the pro scouting staff. Graham Beamish has been part of that side of the operation since Regier, for a time as the "scouting coordinator", but what is his input? VanBoxmeer has been on staff forever, but he lives and works out west almost exclusively. Crowe is new, having come out of the NTDP staff. Those are the three guys I know who are part of the "pro" side of the shop specifically and I question their input and effectiveness.

How could people fail so spectacularly for a decade and keep their job? This organization is like the movie Ted where the title character keeps trying to get fired only to keep getting promoted.

I was not shocked to find only a few guys are still in their positions from the end of the Murray era. It makes me shake my head slowly ever time I hear about Botterill "killing" the 2017 draft since the guys who wrote that draft book are almost universally gone.

Edit:

From a pro-talent side, what have they done in the last two full seasons that points to a player who has contributed above expectation? There have been a raft of them who haven't performed to expectation, and stats bear out are below replacement level. Who have these guys found who have helped rather than hurt? I'm struggling to find a positive find.

So if the press covering the team actually have something tangible that they could report on the why's and wherefores of all of this, why haven't they rolled it out? Why the delay if there is an actual, substantial, reportable reason for the deal?

In the era of hits and traffic, one would think someone would have tried to scoop this if there is a good reason for it. But carrying water (love that phrase, thanks J for reminding me of the utility of it) for a f***ing terrible trade by a couple of them just smacks of people afraid of losing some favor with their team access.

Pilut is the only find I believe, but I'm assuming even though he was a "pro", that the amateur scouting found him.

Last night was one of the best games I've seen ROR play. He missed a goal on a penalty kill where he man handled 2 guys and almost deflected it in on a second effort. The dude was on a mission last night. He was incredible. I can't believe we had him locked in at 7.5 per.
