The PWHL Vancouver Thread



Vancouver adding a couple of defenders in Melissa Channell-Watkins and Emma Greco.

This team looks like a legit Walter Cup threat in our inaugural season .

This team is stacked . Vancouver showing the World why we are a Prime location and primer destination for Women’s hockey and we have a fan base ready to support and be the best fans in the PWHL

It’s awesome to see Vancouver as a destination attraction in the PWHL. A designated rink and a designated practice facility goes a long way.

Eagerly awaiting ticket prices, can't wait to watch some high level hockey in the city without having to pay out the nose for Aqua's overpriced dumpster fire (even though I am somehow still a fan of this dumpster fire)

Pretty happy overall, I think they just need to make sure they don't drop the ball in terms of team colours and logos.

Sceptres = ok colours, meh logo, terrible name
Charge = good colours, ok logo, ok name
Victoire = great colours, great logo, good name
Freeze = ok colours, meh logo, meh name
Fleet = great colours, good logo, ok name
Sirens = good colours, good logo, terrible name

That's just my opinion but before we got a team I would have instantly bought a Victoires jersey.

Vancouver is really high on Izzy Daniel per Ian Kennedy the PWHL hockey analyst as he now in two straight hockey columns has Daniel playing in the top 6 in his latest article of the 8 PWHL teams depth charts going into the Amateur Draft next week

Daniel was a scoring machine in college so hopefully next season it can translate into top 6 scoring numbers

Honestly, I find all the jerseys except Torontos to look pretty cheap and lazy. Not a fan of any of them

Also, is it just me or do the logos on the PWHL jerseys look massive compared to the NHL?

I think the Fleet jersey is actually pretty cool - even if it’s a bit of a rip off on the Whalers jersey (which is one of the best jerseys there ever was).

Hopefully Vancouver can come up with both a good name and logo.

I'm not usually a big fan of non-plural names, but I really like Vancouver Reign. Or Vancouver Totems/Seagulls.

If it’s non-plural, I think the Vancouver Grind (a nod to Grouse) would be good. Hopefully the name captures something of our local scenery (mountains, ocean) or wildlife (whether that be sea or land). My Dad suggested the Grizzlies - which on one hand I love, but on the other hand, think they’ll avoid given the failure of the NBA franchise and/or the hope that the NBA will return here one day.

Michelle Karvinen. Vancouver goes really outside the box and draft’s a 35 year old rookie with their first ever pick in the PWHL Entry Draft from Finland who has won 3 Olympic Bronze Medals , 5 Bronze Medals in the Women’s World Championships and a Silver Medal

Wikipedia tells me she is the Worlds Best Technical Player. Her dream was to play in the PWHL and Cara Gardner Morey makes that dream a reality

I think Vancouver is looking at their roster and seeing this year as a big opportunity to win a championship. In that sense, picking Karvinen - someone their coach has history with, who is a veteran scorer - makes sense.
