The PWHL Vancouver Thread

Every day I refresh my email with hopes of PWHL tickets news, and hopefully the ability to buy a Nintendo Switch 2
(these are not related but equally exciting)

Some big names left unprotected (biggest one being Hillary Knight) for the upcoming PWHL expansion draft. There's also a lot of local talent in the free agent pool, too. Vancouver should have an opportunity to build a really strong group.

Vancouver first out of the gate signing two defenders from the back-to-back champion Minnesota Frost - Claire Thompson and Sophie Jacques. The top two scoring defenders on Minnesota last season, too, and both were finalists/nominees for the PWHL Defender of the Year Award.

I kind of feel for fans of the other teams a bit - this expansion draft is hugely, hugely favourable to Vancouver and Seattle.

But Gardner-Morey sure isn't f***ing around - she's come flying out of the gate signing players. And this is a really nice haul so far.
We literally have two All-Star defenders, extremely good goalie, and a star forward to start it off lol

No kidding. It's a pretty exciting day for PWHL Van fans.

I wonder who their 5th acquisition will be. I'm a little surprised they haven't signed a BC product yet - but I wonder if they're counting on some BC born free agents still being free once their exclusive window ends.

Vancouver Sockeyes! Give it to me!
Any word on the colors were gonna use?

Would probably need to work out something with the Richmond Sockeyes, which is PJHL men's.

Also wtf is this expansion process, just take all the other team's best players?

When the league owns everything, it makes sense to weigh things in favour of getting new markets buzzing while expecting the established teams to recover.
