Speculation: The Powerplay Thread

Olsen's shot is decent, I wonder if he could work well with Ekblad on the PP.

Would rather with Kuli. Actually I'd love to see Ek and Kuli on the backend. Force PKers to play both, Kuli has a great shot and can set up well.

Move the puck quicker
Dont stand still the whole PP
Cause traffic in front
Shoot the puck
POSITION Sticksides correctly

We have way too little traffic in front of the net. That's why we don't have enough space to move the puck

This x1000.

Like I've said before, I'd want to see Bjugstad waiting in the faceoff circle like Ovechkin and Stamkos and have someone feed him the puck for one timers. The goal should be to get the puck to him in that area which you can tell Tampa and Washington always make their top priority on the PP.

Here's the goal Bjugstad scored from the circle vs. San Jose. He wasn't really set up for it per se, but he can definitely score from that location of given a good pass and some space.

On this play, I'd like to see Ekblad and Bjugstad switched. Have Ekblad on the left circle shooting that shot and Bjugstad crashing on the right for rebounds. Hayes in front of the net, Huberdeau and Barkov as facilitators.

That's 2 sets of elite hands, 2 cannons, and a big body in front of the net.

His wrister is good. His slapshot would hit the 300 level if there wasn't a net above the clear panels.

It's too bad our rock-head coach doesn't understand the strengths of our players. Maybe it'll click next year IF he makes it that far in the land of a 1,000 coaches.

I don't think there's much chance he's fired. He's done a great job with everything but the powerplay.

This was one of the primary reasons why we couldn't win the series.

This powerplay is STILL bad. Tallon can't sweep it under the rug and say "We play 5-on-5 hockey like you're supposed to" this summer. He must address it.

A few suggestions:

-Acquire a bona fide shooter for the backend. No one should count on Petro, Guddy, Kuli for any type of goal contribution at all moving forward. Ekblad is the only threat from back there. Matheson is an unknown.

-Acquire a bona fide shooter up front

Wow, I forgot I made this thread, haha.

Tallon says don't worry, it'll be fixed by 2017-18 season with Hultstrom and Hunt getting NHL spots. One more season of suffering!

Yeah, I trust Tallon and all, but not sure if I feel ok with putting our faith in Hunt and Hultstrom.

Tallon really said Hulstrom and Hunt would get NHL spots in 17-18? I know that's wishful thinking on your part as we will have to see how they do at camp and the AHL....................and if Hulstrom actually signs here. I know you said it's all but done.............but players have been known to change their mind.

I think the players we have aren't awful. The coaching however is a different story. We can't do much on the PP just standing around...

No, he didn't say that. I'm just saying that on my own assuming they don't get NHL spots this coming season.

I know the leagues they've played in are different than the NHL but they skills they possess are what our PP needs. Hunt is a sniper and Hultstrom can QB a power play as well as set up on the left side a la Ovechkin...watch his highlight videos.

Moose Jaw would put Hunt out there for the entire two minutes of a power play (if it even got that far).

The hell with the dipsy doodle passing on the power play, use the man advantage to punish them. They do not like being physical, so dump it in and hit them, hit them, then hit them again. Soften their penalty killers up, they will succumb. Force them to use the king and queen on the PK. Wear them down and when adequately softened, barrage their net with shots. Goaltending is their weakness.
