Pionk gets hate but he had a good first couple months.. Shattenkirk has had a handful of good games

Do you think he's playing injured? Did other teams simply start playing him more tightly? Or maybe is this a conditioning issue? Those are the three alternatives that come to mind.

A little bit of everything. He's an undersized rookie playing on a bad team.

He'd benefit playing with a stable lefty that could move the puck. He could grow into a Ryan Ellis-lite or at least we should hope. He should be getting 3rd pair minutes but we have Shatty here.

Maybe he's not shooting 33% anymore and his goals share isn't 100% anymore?

So this is the "real" Pionk and that his initial success was a fluke? I'm not disagreeing; just want to understand your argument. Thing is, he looked good early this season, and he looked good last season. There's something there; he has the potential to be a good player.

Pionk had an insane point scoring hot streak earlier in the season and now he’s come back to earth

He’s a third pairing defensemen being played like a #1

Maybe they’re showcasing him for a larger move but I just genuinely believe Quinn and co think he’s great

I don't know what his potential is or who the real Pionk is, but his first two months of this season was one of the more bizarre flukes in recent memory in the NHL.

He literally put up historic stats.
