It’s really not an abysmal shot. You don’t need a powerful shot to be a good offensive defenseman. It’s his playmaking, passing, and vision that impresses us. Also, I think his defense is good enough for him to be a 2-way. And yes, I know the last goal the Penguins scored was a rough one, but that doesn’t change anything.

With the exception of Chytil, the other forwards are vets. This is where Gorts needs to make the changes. Instead of tying up the cap on fringe guys that winning teams don't want, you are better off with kids or role players who can fill a role.

IMO that's going to be just as much of a challenge as drafting and developing.

I don't hate the strategy if they're able to find guys with translatable skillsets that they can mold into more efficient players. A guy like Names isn't going to be a high-end scorer at the NHL level, but Quinn really helped kick his ass into gear and turn him into a really useful 3rd liner. Kid's had a nonstop motor since his initial benching at the beginning of the season.

Only problem is Gorton gave him a bad contract relative to what he provides.
