Line Combos: The "Power Play"

MSL was a PP star... How come he cannot teach that aspect to his team ? Not Burrows fault at this point. The head coach has to step up. Maybe he doesn't have the horses to succeed ????
He did a few times last season and the PP looked more dynamic with more movements for like two games before the players returned to their passiveness.

It's garbage from the Therrien/Julien era that the old players can't flush from their brain and they drag the newcomers with them. Burrow is failing at purging that crap from their brain or just reinforce it. MLS's works only for a few games.

That's his job as head coach to take the lead. He can see how crappy the PP is since a season and a half. He's got to teach it, find the proper players , and - or fire Burrows. Too bad Matheson was injured again.

Matheson and Guhle were here last year. PP wasn’t better. It’s coaching. It’s absolutely idiotic coaching that kills it. Jacques Martin was better at coaching PP FFS
Jacques Martin had The General, for most of his tenure, but also Souray.....

Win the faceoff, feed the point, hammer the puck on net, crash the crease, 2d 3F. kISs...
Winning the Face Off is huge.................do this and that stupid half ice drop pass disappears FFS.......

Preseason roster- of course the powerplay isn't going to work. That's not a realistic gripe.

Yeah it’s just we heard the same thing the last 10 seasons.

When I heard Burrows say “yeah we didn’t get to practice the PP yet” mid-training camp, I was wowed with the lack of self-awareness

The decision no to try Guhle on the power play is just puzzling.

I get that they want to evaluate some players, but after 4-5 powerplays in a row with no success maybe they should try the best D on the team.

He’s shown before that he can find passing lane, he can shoot the puck, he isn’t afraid to go deeper in the zone and offer an other option and if things go bad he’s great at skating back to fix mistakes.

At one point they have to give him chance.

Last year MSL said Guhle wasn’t on the PP because he already had enough responsibilities, he didn’t want to also burden him (now) with making the PP work.

From player dev point of view it probably makes sense, sucks for the team (or rather the rest of the team sucks).

and they treat the puck like a grenade when the other team pressures them, no patients
That's because they know the other team will take the puck from them. Habs players have no idea how to keep the puck away from opponents or get it back right away after a poke outside of Dach, Armia and Slaf.

That's because jabronis like Jordan Harris and Xhekaj can't PK to save their life. Harris better start blocking shots or something. He took a puck to the mouth the other day, that's a start.

MSL already took over the PP last year in February or so. Tells you a lot about all those complaints on Burrows. Not sure about this year.

A lot of the problems so far is only execution from the top players. That should be fixed by season start. And Norlinder. Hopefully he's out of there.

Getting into the zone is pretty easy right now. They just give it to Dach.

Dach in Suzuki spot, Suzuki in Caufield spot and Caufield in the bumper is interesting.
Not really because Suzuki has no one time, only Caufield has one on this team and Dach does not like to shoot so he can t draw the D man towards him to free Caufield in the bumper.

It’s not a valid excuse though.

Top defensemen around the league play a lot of minutes in all situations.

It’s about time they put him in that position and see if he can continue to progress. He’s shown some offensive ability, they need to see where that can lead them and what better time than now when the team is trying to figure out who fits in which chair.

Markov actually did not play for Martin that much.

He was consistently injured during Martin's tenure.

The guys getting primary pp time under martin during his time there were basically subban, wiseniewski, schneider, and kaberle

It's really sad how we were robbed from some of markov's best years by some freak injuries.

Souray was already gone by 07. Martin was hired in 09.
