Celebrini is exactly the type of talent you want to build your team around. He does it all, wont have any glaring weaknesses in his game. They will not be like an Ottawa/Buffalo/Montreal.

I think they push for the playoffs next year, or the very least the year after that.

Only thing they are kinda lacking is on the back end but Dickinson should develop nicely and teams have gotten by/made playoffs without straight up legit #1 Ds.

Yep. Celebrini is the closest to Matthews since Matthews. Look what he did for the Leafs made us instantly a playoff team. Sharks with him in the lineup are a playoff team. They probably won't make it but they have a player good enough to get them into the playoffs most years if they put decent parts around him

I think it'll take longer. The teardown by Grier was textbook and the first quarter of the season looks like he's doing okay at building a team that takes a step forward this year. But we have a very weak back end and the promising prospects are still children. I've been saying and I'll keep saying, first playoff push in 2026-27, not contenders until 2030. But everything is on track except Musty and we need one more blue chip D prospect, plus others to keep their trajectory.

Exactly. I and others have said bottom 3 this year, bottom 5 next year, bottom 10 after that, then maybe wild card... But stacked young teams take steps back all the time. We could be bottom 10 next year and sniffing wildcard, then bottom 5 the following year. Contention in 2030+ if the rebuild stays on the rails and Celebrini hits close to his ceiling.
It’s hard to stay patient for three four five years but it’s generally inevitable.

What is it about Celebrini that you don't see offensive potential?

Every single league he has played in all the way back to U14AAA, he has been the top player offensively.

His worst finish was 3rd as a 17 year old hobbey baker winner in the ncaa as a rookie.
HEY he has 2 decades of watching children play hockey! You can’t criticize him!

Smith was never a center imo, but hey i only spent 2 decades as a scout. He plays like a wing, always has.

We both deserve the shade to be fair.
Congrats bud. I completely disagree and so does every single one of his previous coaches. He’s always been the C.

Not sure if Wennberg and Walman fit the “winning” part of the equation. I’m thinking more like Hossa was to Chicago.
That wasn’t what you said though…. But yes they do fit the equation of being on good teams.

No one talking about Mikael Granlund who has 10+18 in 25 games. Even the OP left him out, lol.
He’s not really a part of the future.

Why not?

Edit: It's not like hes gonna ask for 10mil per or anything even close, and hes over PPG, in what world do you not want that kind of player not to stay with the team?

I would imagine Granlund would take like 5x4 type of contract, but you think thats crazy and not part of the future?

He will be 33 in 2 months, and is a ufa in 6 months. He could be in the future for the 2-3 year rebuild, but he will have no future for the potential return to the playoffs for the sharks
He just went through a bad divorce. Basic half of the money to the babysitter, sorry to everyone that gets offended by that, but thats what happened. Lets say 4x4 for a dude who scores over PPG atm, and you are saying no, we don't need any mentors to the kids? Thats crazy to me, but maybe you feel like Celebrini and others will take over way sooner than that i do.

Many of us think he could be a great mentor for the next few years but few of us think his impact will sustain through to when we are competitive.

Everyone is open for 1 or 2 more years, but beyond that he will most likely be out of the league. And to me that isn't really a future player, even if he stays and does this for 4 more he still doesn't fit the future of the team.
