The Playoff Push, Tanking and Scoreboard Watching Thread

I really like Bostons choices

They were not good then decided let’s go be bad then, traded key guys, and now they’re 4th worst in the standings and last in the east, somehow below the Sabres.

Maybe they’ll be bad for another year or two but if the lottery balls call their name - it’ll all be worth it probably.

Wonder if pasta moves. He’s only 28. I don’t think you’d retain a guy like him for his good years if you’re chasing lottery picks.
Hard to see Boston deliberately tanking next couple seasons. I expect them to be aggressive to turn it around. Not saying will work, but I can’t fathom the deal guy like Pasta.

We are at a point where teams will point to St Louis as an example of a team who became a playoff contender without a deliberate tank. We’ll see how much of a contender we turn into, but a team like Boston may try to emulate the process.

Yes, but that also involves an incredibly rare circumstance that likely won’t be able to replicated with Broberg and Holloway.

Broberg and Holloway
Having 2 stars in Thomas and Kyrou at 25
Stealing Fowler
The emergence of Bolduc
Parayko still a beast
Binner being Binner
A solid veteran D

Lots of things came together

I’m not watching the game

But Frederic has 1 6 second shift

That’s anomalous. Oilers are going to be odd with all their injured guys.

How? Thomas, neighbors and snuggy were taken in the 20s with kyrou in the early 2nd. Buchnevich, Holloway and broberg were other GM screwups. The "emulation" is having a great GM and amazing drafting. I think that's just a goal for every team in the league.

Anaheim scored within first 2 minutes of the game, and I was hoping they could give Vancouver an L. Then Vancouver said hold my beer and scored 5 goals in about 4.5 minutes to take a 5-1 lead after the 1st period. Oh well.

Actually good if they still stay in the hunt. The play Vegas twice and could cost them the division if they manage to beat them a few times. We could possibly get LA in Round 1 if that happens.

Yep. Plus, we only need 5 more points to not have them pass us at all.
I'd almost feel confident a straight up 2-3 record over our final 5 games would get us in. Calgary has matchups with LA, and Vegas down the stretch who are both playing for the Pacific plus a head to head with Minnesota who have to be playing equally desperate hockey. Hopefully the Flames lay an egg in one of their three games with San Jose and Anaheim next week.

LA up 2-0 on Edmonton after the 2nd period.

If they win, they’ll be 1 point behind Vegas.

I might actually be rooting for Calgary to beat Vegas tonight. There’s no easy first round matchup but LA is clearly the most favorable, IMO. Would be great to have Vegas and Edmonton beat each other up in the 1st round.

I actually think it's the other way around. Boston became a perennial contender building an entire core later in the draft (Bergeron, Krecji, and Lucic in the 2nd round as well as Chara and Marchand in the 3rd round).

I mainly mean fans of those teams being less patient with a full tear down. Imagine how Buffalo fans would look at the Blues back in the playoffs and winning a series.

I've seen enough of the Jets over the last couple weeks to like our chances in a playoff series against them. Obviously Hellebucyk can be the difference maker, but I'm very unimpressed by what I'm seeing.

They are also dealing with injury issues. Ehlers, Valardi and Pionk are all hurt. I would love WPG in round 1 but that doesn’t appear likely unfortunately.

I’d love to see somebody do a breakdown of us vs LV.

I would not be surprised to see LA being our 1st round match up
As long as we get into the Pacific, I could care less who we play. Every playoff team is good, everyone has their pros and cons. But the Central is the hardest bracket in hockey right now IMO and avoiding it until a 3rd round if you get that far is still the best path to take.

I think Dallas is going to win the west still but if they get 2 hard rounds against team like Colorado & Winnipeg, the winner of the Pacific could sneak off with a series win due to the bloodbath first 2 rounds they will likely have had to go through.
