OT: The Pittsburgher Thread: Post Draft - Still dont need no QB

It’s not that hot of a take. If Mason gets hurt. Or if they are out of playoff contention with a few weeks left. I imagine him getting some starts.

Let me re-phrase (I don't think it'll be injury related, or other external forces) ... I think Howard could earn himself the starting role based on really exceeding expectations.

In that context. Assuming AR doesn’t sign here. I think that’s unlikely. Not impossible. Unless Mason is an absolute train derailment I don’t think Howard could play himself into the starting gig. Not impossible I just don’t see Tomlin doing that.

Hot take, but I wouldn't be shocked to see Howard as the starter by the end of the season.

I'm just getting a weird feeling about him surprising a lot of people.

I think through the draft process people underrated him almost to a criminal level. Then when he bombed at the Combine it just totally sunk his prospects. He's a bigger, stronger, more talented Pickett.

If Rodgers signs, I think it's highly unlikely Howard will see much (if any) time this year. Rodgers will play every game he's fit for and they will have to throw Rudy a bone if Rodgers misses any time.

If it's just Rudolph and Howard, I could see Rudolph struggling towards the end of the year with how difficult the schedule is and in a desperate attempt to save NHALS and/or a playoff spot, they try to find a spark with howard. Not sure how I would feel about it either. I'd be worried he'd trick them into thinking he's the guy based on a small sample size and them talking themselves out of doing what's necessary to find a QB in 2026.

Yeah, agree.

I dunno, can't quite put my finger on it. Just a feeling/hunch/vibe.

And I don't think that Rodgers is coming here. I suspect he's dragging this out either for PR purposes or until a contender has a starter go down with an injury.

I wonder where his draft stock would have been if he had an above average arm? Hard to tell but thats the only big red flag

A quick look at Pro Football Reference suggests it's about 50-50 whether a QB is fit enough to play every game in a year anyway. Beyond form, there's a very solid chance Howard gets at least one start if QB2 - and it's possible he'd get one as QB3. Think you can usually find at least one team a season who manages to get both QB1 and 2 injured at the same time.

They don’t have the personnel to throw it 40 times a game. They were extremely predictable last season because they barely threw whenever GP was on the side line. GP averaged 8 targets a game i don’t think it’s gonna be any different with DK who’s used to 12 a game. They aren’t built for shootouts.
It's not about throwing often, it’s about not being so f***ing predictable. You knew when they were going to keep trying the run and how and then when they were going to air it out and the few targets they had that were worth a damn.

There’s ways to make the run to pass not look like shit, it’s what other teams like you mentioned that do the same, know how to do. Steelers make it look harder than it ever should be.

Rodgers' only other move would be NOLA. And if I were him, I'd pick that team over the Steelers in terms of offensive weapons.

No his best move is to wait for a sb contender to have an injury in august. The saints aren’t interested they want to play the rookie and start the climb out of cap hell

That’s fair they were definitely predictable based on personal. Warren was the no huddle rb so you knew they were passing. When Ben was in they were probably running. I don’t think it changes much this year Ben and Woods are on the team because they block well as wr. You don’t have a wr 2 on the outside and Ca3 is better inside. You can dress it up but they only have so many offensive weapons.
Maybe with Rodgers they attack the seems and hit on slants more

I didn’t watch the episode so I can’t really comment but if someone close to him is dying of cancer… I get not wanting to sign right now.

I’m still of the opinion that there’s a handshake deal in place, but whatever soft deadline they discussed when they met two months ago is rapidly approaching. (Voluntary) OTA’s are next week. June 10 is the date for the mandatory minicamp. If we blow past that one, I’ll probably be forced to revisit my assumptions.

Honestly, I like Howard because he's not going to be a p***y when they start rapid fire drafting his competition (if it comes to that). I think the dude will sack up and do exactly what he needs to do. I said he's kind of like Pickett, but he's more like Rudolph honestly. I think Howard is a team guy, a great locker room guy, and a guy who moves the needle forward just by being around.

I think he's a decent starter potential or good backup...if he's more I'll consider that house money. But best believe he's not going to let someone just take the job from him. Not even Rudolph. He has a real opportunity to create a legacy here and I hope to God he does. We all want off this f***ing QB carousel of shit.

Thing is, if it's affecting him that much and I'm emphatically not blaming him if it is, how likely is it that he'll just be able to compartmentalize and flick a switch when the time comes? Particularly if the person and illness are still ongoing?

I don't have an answer, but I suspect that he's not bullshitting about being genuinely undecided because he doesn't know himself. I'm pretty sure it was reported that yeah, the terms of the deal are there if he says yes to playing, but the rest of it, I suspect Rodgers is almost as wait and see as the rest of us.

Has anyone subjected themselves to the entire 3 hr Rogan pod with Rodgers on it?

Not even 5 mins in and Rogan compared living in Malibu to living in the ghetto.

TBH, I'd rather saw off my own dick with a rusty linoleum knife.

That episode would be the Dunning-Krueger singularity ...
