OT: The Pittsburgher Thread: Post Draft - Still dont need no QB

Then why bother acquiring Metcalf?
Because they were desperate for wr 2 and khan overpaid. He wasn’t coming here without the money. You could have set the rookie Qb up with DK and Gp for his entire rookie contract instead they will chase wr 2 and strike out because they aren’t moving a high enough pick for a guy because they are trading up in 26
I bought into the idea of Rodgers DK and Gp at least for a year maybe they win a playoff game but that’s it.
The organization still believes in running abd defense. They are going act shocked when they go 10/7 lose in the wc because they have no offense and the defense is exhausted

Sellers as QB4 is surprising. Most of the stuff I’ve read so far has him as the consensus QB2 in this class.
Sellers is very similar to Milroe he needs to develop a lot as a passer
My preference is Allar Leavett Sellers than Kubiak

I am honestly fine with Rudy and Howard as the Qb's, it would force a dipshit like Smith to actually try something different or he doubles down and goes hard in the paint with his archaic and stupid AF run to set up a pass bullshit against every team even when it makes zero sense to. Also if it fails, you pick higher, it also casts a bigger doubt in Tomlin's abilities to the ones that fail to see the clown for what he is as well.

I really don't care to see a selfish twat like Rodgers as the QB at all. I could barely stand Rapelisberger and somehow I hate this even bigger selfish douchebag Rodgers, more.
Running to set up the pass isn’t archaic the Eagles just won the sb.
Smith wants to be the 49ers and packers on offense. Under center play action using in breaking routes in the mof. You will see DK get 5 slants a game with Rodgers or Mason. Post slants Diggs weren’t in the playbook with RW and JF limitations

It's almost impossible in today's NFL to build a defense that matches up favorably with everyone. Load up to stop the run, and passing teams destroy you. Favor the pass too much, and running teams destroy you. This is parity in the NFL - it's very hard to build a truly dominant unit.

Which means sometimes you have to be able to outscore teams your defense matches up poorly with. But Tomlin will never embrace that, even when the writing on the wall is crystal clear. We are ALWAYS going to see an offense in the playoffs capable of putting 30+ on us (which, these days, seems like just about any playoff team). If we don't come out swinging trying to score points, we will continue to get buried.

There are other coaches that liked Martyball (Marty Schottenheimer) but Tomlin seems to be the one that will not adapt. Cowher loved Martyball until he got Slash. Even then it did not fall fall from the tree. both Harbaugh brothers love their Martyball but the Ravens at least rolled the dice with Jackson.

As long as A. Smith is running the offense I'm just not seeing a change. Martyball will win you regular season games but needs a lot of things to go right to win in the playoffs.

I think Sellers is more talented and he's pretty significantly bigger than Milroe.

I like Nussmeier a lot.
Nussmier is to much of a gunslinger and risk taker for Tomlin
Sellers has a higher ceiling than Milroe sure but still struggles with completing simple passes and reading his progressions

So far I've done a little draft sicko tape watching on next year's QBs. I watched an every play cut up of Sellers vs Clemson. Some of the sacks he escapes are ridiculous. But some of the sacks he takes are disappointing. Just doesn't notice the pressure is coming and some guy basically right by him gets to hug him.

As a thrower I thought he was fine. Not very good throwing on the move in that game. Clemson's DL was all over him so not much chance to go through progressions. I wish that Clemson had been less aggressive and instead of chasing Sellers and leaving holes, they'd just bottled him up in the pocket and ask him to make the throws.

Hard to be sure what he is as a QB prospect as a result.

Not in that it is the least bit surprising, but Heyward had Harmon on his podcast where he flat out said that he knew Harmon was going to be the Steelers pick if he was available with their pick. Tomlin and Khan apparently flat out told Harmon this as well, but Harmon bought into the pre-draft rumors that the Steelers were going to take a QB in round 1 and didn't think the Steelers would take him.

Mate it’s not that the style is archaic. It’s the times when Smith uses it, that is. He just keeps trying it vs teams that it just doesn’t work against and they get destroyed and then when the game is basically over he starts to air it out and then they gain.

He has absolutely no f***ing idea when to utilize the run and which teams to exploit. He’s about as dumb a f*** as Sullivan was with the Pens - I don’t need to match, my ideas are incredible, it’s the players that fail.

They don’t have the personnel to throw it 40 times a game. They were extremely predictable last season because they barely threw whenever GP was on the side line. GP averaged 8 targets a game i don’t think it’s gonna be any different with DK who’s used to 12 a game. They aren’t built for shootouts.

Sellers will probably be viewed as the "physical traits + upside" QB in this class if he declares. Size/weight/athleticism with the requisite arm strength. There just isn't anybody else with his level of dual threat abilities. IIRC Sellers rushed for 100+ in that Clemson game. Teams will overlook the consistency and footwork issues because they will be viewed as fixable. A tale as old as time.

That bit is certainly true.

How many issues he'll be viewed as needing fixing... well, I can't compare him to previous years as this is my year of going draft sicko  But it feels like he's getting projected at a higher tier than many previous physical traits guys probably did at the start of the year. I imagine part of that's what xlm is saying, if he declares it's because he's hit, but statistically it looks like he's a pretty polished passer for his age. 65.6% and 151 passer rating is solid.

Anyway, yeah, 166 yards for him that game. Only threw it 21 times. Genuinely do not what Clemson were thinking. That said, looking at his game log, plenty of 30+ attempt games to look at him in, and also quite a few where his running game just did not go anywhere at all. Lets look at Alabama...

Hot take, but I wouldn't be shocked to see Howard as the starter by the end of the season.

I'm just getting a weird feeling about him surprising a lot of people.

Having watched the South Carolina vs Alabama highlights

- I can only assume that game is not reflective of Sellers' overall ball security or otherwise he's a DND
- Still not sold on his ability to pass on the run
- Still suspicious about some of the sacks he takes and how quick he's feeling the game
- That said, he looks fine as a pocket QB given his age, although I think he's still got some big steps to take to be an NFL star

Another "sprint to the podium" pick.
Not that I dislike Harmon, but the Steelers seem to unnecessarily box themselves in

It’s not that hot of a take. If Mason gets hurt. Or if they are out of playoff contention with a few weeks left. I imagine him getting some starts.
