OT: The Pittsburgher Thread: Post Draft - Still dont need no QB

No issue at all dumping Pickens. Dude is a complete headcase diva. Hate doing it now and rolling into 2025 with one legit WR and your compensation is basically what you’d have gotten if he left as a UFA. Weird timing.

I’ve generally liked the drafting under Khan, but a lot of his other work has me scratching my head a lot.

I don't understand why you wouldn't do it before 2025 draft so you could get a young guy in here immediately. At this point, may as well wait for the 2027 third round compensatory. And I say this as a guy that can't stand Pickens and wants him gone.

They better be calling Amari Cooper

The thing about the third in ‘26 vs the comp pick is:

1.) There’s no guarantee you get the comp pick. If Pickens continues to behave like he has, teams aren’t going to be lining up to give him a big deal. And even if they do, the Steelers shouldn’t be trying to play the comp pick game next offseason. They have cap space and need to use it.

2.) It’d be a ‘27 pick vs a ‘26 pick and would also be like 20 spots lower in the draft.

Trading Pickles for draft picks now is absurd, unless it is a first.

Steelers offense is the same as it's always been now, which is bad. If you're going to trade Pickens, you have to have a backup plan for another semi elite wide receiver or get something in return from Dallas as well. Just straight draft picks is not going to cut it.

This went from you can possibly see us contending, to rebuilding really quickly.

Khan man.

I don’t hate trading Pickens but I absolutely hate trading Pickens after the 2025 draft when you didn’t draft a WR. Massively unhappy with moving him right now.

They better sign someone in free agency.

Ignoring the timing and comp, which was underwhelming to say the least, I do like that they've made an effort to rid themselves of bad attitude players and have brought in high character guys through the draft. Now they might put a dent in that concept if Rodgers signs but at least that's just one year.

It was obvious that Pickens wasn’t going to be able to coexist here after they traded for another WR and gave them the deal he wanted.

I hope they just tank this year. This move helps them do it, so I’m all for it.

What a match made in hell Pickens is in Dallas. Absolutely a perfect fit. I cannot wait to watch that debacle.

Came in to the season with needs at:

QB
WR
RB
DL
Outside CB
Slot CB
Safety kinda

Going into next offseason with needs at:

QB
WR (probably 2)
OG (maybe 2)
Outside CB
Slot CB
Safety if they don’t re-sign Elliot
And maybe add tackle and RB to the list depending on how Jones performs and if they re-sign Warren.

They’re gonna have picks and cap space but yeesh.

Pittsburgh sports about to get even more rough the next few years. Not that the steelers were great, but oof, i guess we have the drafts to look forward to

Yeah, this needs to be nipped in the bud right away. They got comp picks for next year because they didn't really sign anyone in FA. Next year, they will have cap space and plenty of holes to fill (OG, CB, WR which would probably have been a need even if they kept Pickens for 2025, etc.) Those signings would cancel out anything they could potentially get for Pickens.

You thought they were going to contend this year? With who at QB?

Not a fan of this move. Have to assume the sports chatters are right and he's a net negative given his attitude or immaturity or whatever it is and it causes problems "in the room." Which makes the timing still confusing but whatever.

If it is a Rodgers thing, to be honest I'd rather have Rudolph and Pickens and Rodgers and Lazard.
