OT: The Pittsburgher Thread: Ploff wins?!? Fire Tomlin

Going with Fields is the right choice, especially if he’s the guy that Arthur Smith would rather work with. If you fix the running game and add another weapon at receiver, Wilson would probably be fine but at the end of the day he won’t be enough and isn’t a long term option. He just gets you stuck in the no man’s land that everyone hates.

I could see them giving fields a 3 year deal like tribsky maybe a pick swap for levis or Richardson instead of drafting a Qb. Skyler is a better qb 3 than Allen but he did back up in Miami and has play off experience
If Dart makes this huge jump into the top 20 as qb 3 i don’t want any Qb but if they make a few trades for extra picks you can pencil in Millroe backing up Fields.

He is our Sam Darnold.

This also seems true of Fields though. If anything I think Wilson's age accelerates you towards the next big swing more than Fields. Or maybe it accelerates you to a kind of pathetic Desmond Ridder swing that wastes more time. All feels like the Zen Master in Charlie Wilson's War tbh.

I think for me, Steelers fandom is going to be a grim enough place without trotting Wilson back out there after the end of last season, so I vaguely prefer Fields. But they're more similar than not and the Steelers are already well stuck in no man's land and the ways out are a disaster or a Rutherford-esque 15-16 period of immaculate execution in team build, so I think I'm kinda just gonna shrug at the options from here.

Probably true but the difference for me with Fields is that, even though I don’t think it’s likely at all, there’s a non zero chance he could be a long term option. And until they do find one, I really don’t have much of an interest in seeing a veteran guy trying to hold on as long as they can.

I also don’t think anything less than an actually good season from Fields would have them punting on a QB in the ‘26 draft.

I don't think Fields is a long-term option but I seriously doubt that this team would plan on it either. They might not draft a QB this year, but I'd be shocked for them to not draft a QB by the end of the 2026 draft.

The only way they won't draft a QB this year or next year IMO is if Fields balls out and convinces them they don't need to draft a QB, meaning Fields is the guy.

We gave mitch 3/30 i could see them giving Fields that knowing the qb in 26 they draft might not start like they did with KP and Ben

Imagine being offered draft picks for our coach, who has single handedly dropped this franchise from the greats to the has beens. Getting an opportunity for a much needed reset. One last push with TJ/Cam. And not even entertaining it. Khan artist, right.
If it’s anything like the Peyton Denver thing. Peyton had to get a new contract from Denver then Denver had to agree to compensation with the saints. It doesn’t seem like they even had this discussion and the bears also reached out to McCarthy while he was a cowboy hc so not sure if we can be angry though a 1st and 2nd like Denver gave the saints would be nice

A) That call may have been Rooney's. he seems to love Tomlin above everything
B) Tomlin has a no no clause, so even if they reached a deal, Tomlin would have to agree and he said he told teams not to waste their time apparently. The Steelers are stuck with him until Rooney grows a pair or Tomlin decides to retire.

I'd bet on him being short term but with the Steelers, who knows. A conservatively successful 10-7 season that has the Steelers picking 20 could very easily keep things status quo imo.

*shrugs* But any choice can go wrong. No point dwelling on it too much.

I would escalate that from may have been Rooney's to absolutely is Rooney's. Khan doesn't get to decide that solo. Not that I'm assuming Khan is disagreeing, but this is 100% Rooney's call.

I would also add that while Tomlin has indicated zero interest, that's very easy to in an org where you get total backing. If the Steelers were actively pissed at him or saying "hey, listen to this" please that's immediately a different story.

The football gods smiled on Art2 with a solution to his decade long problem and he spit in their faces.

This certainly won’t come back to haunt him.

We only get to imagine what it would be like in another multiverse where AR2 accepts reality then trades Tomlin, Watt, Fitz, and Pickens.

Then he fires all of Tomlin’s cronies.

Art2 probably keeps telling himself this can’t happen again every year, Tomlin will figure it out and win a… if we just keep things the same and… purple monkey dishwasher!

they can't trade him if he doesn't want to go, and he doesn't want to go. don't try to make more of it than that.

Another team also reportedly reached out to the Steelers and was told that Tomlin has a no-trade clause, although he could put a stop to any trade notion by refusing to negotiate a deal with the other team even if they had agreed to compensation with Pittsburgh.

fields might not be the guy, but he's young so he could improve. with Wilson, he's only going downhill. so with no one knocking our socks off in this draft, i can see no reason to not go with fields
