OT: The Pittsburgher Thread: Ploff wins?!? Fire Tomlin

Trade Watt.

Trade Minkah.

Trade Pickens.

Trade back this year.

Build all the draft capital you can to find a franchise QB in 26-27.

That’s what a sensible org that doesn’t live off their legacy would do.

But we know they will “make another run for a championship” next year, so keep holding Watt hostage so he never wins a playoff game.

I'd love to see Watt in a place like Buffalo where he can be a lunatic and the fans will eat it up.

Watt is only signed for next season. If he wants to leave he can make it happen because there is no way they should let him leave for nothing.

If he won’t sign an extension then you have your answer and they must trade him.

No reason to trade Highsmith. He's under a great contract and he's good at what he does.

Like so many other Steelers, he overpriced for what he produces. Even add Watt to that list, 30 million is way too much for a guy who fades down the stretch.. Minkah is a joke.

He's not though. He is in no way prohibitive financially to the team at all. To make up what he does it would cost more.

What's a team gonna do instead? Draft a QB every four years and trade them at the end of their rookie contract? Join us in the quest for the next Baker Mayfield? Go to war with their QBs over pay?

I'd also add that you've got to look at the structure here. Love's guaranteed money is paid up by the end of 2026, and 1/3rd of his promised deal gets paid out in 2028 in a year where the Packers can save 58m by cutting him. His deal is basically. Love's deal is basically a 3 year where he makes 36.6m a year APY and if he's great and shows he's a true franchise QB, there's a team option that gets him another 100m. If he's not, sayonara. Lawrencea and Tagovailoa are in similar boats. They're pretty reasonable situations if they're only middle of the road guys who they want to move on from around their 30s.

When a guy like Tua is going to take up as much of your cap as Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen, that’s a big problem for the team paying Tua.

17 million a year for a 7 sac average, taking out his contract year. You could find that production at a fraction of his cost.

Steelers 3rd round spidey sense for the 2020's has to be LBs. Nick Herbig, Payton Wilson, and Alex Highsmith.

Here's where I would be this offseason if there were a nuke button -

Tomlin is traded for 2026/27 picks. Pickens is traded for 2025 picks. All of those names above are cut for 30m. Minkah is restructured and extended. We sign Roberts, Fields, Williams, Loudermilk, and Kazee. Trade up to get McMillan. Sign a Tee Higgins type WR. Broderick Jones goes to the left side. Fields starts. New coach is offensive minded. Brings in fresh coordinators. We all take a deep sigh.

Anyway. Good weed.

That’s interesting and timely.

If he’s stupid enough to re-up he deserves his tarnished legacy IMHO.

My daughter had a hockey tournament in Buffalo this weekend and they switched her game today from noon to 8:30 this morning.

Apparently they couldn’t find any refs for the original game time because they all wanted to watch the Bills playoff game.

I think issac minka are trade candidates
it’s definitely a dicusson with TJ I would take a 26 1st round pick maybe a 25 3rd also in a bidding war but its his choice
I am ready to give JF Mitch tribskey 3/30 deal and watch him play in a rpo offense with Godwin or Higgins
All I wanted was a playoff win it’s why i was ok going with RW.
It’s obvious Tomlin is Reid without Mcnabb or Maholmes. He doesn’t need to clean up leave like Peyton we have the draft in 26 we need picks for that draft

Russell Wilson is to quarterbacks as Mike Tomlin is to coaches so it’d be very fitting for Tomlin to hitch his wagon to Wilson.
No give Jf 3/30 like Tribskey. Bring back Daniels and sign Higgins or Godwin fit all that under 1 year of RW cap hit

I in no way want Wilson back unless he’s told that he’s going to back up Fields and to try to help Fields turn into some version of what Wilson was when he was younger.

But I also would not be surprised if Tomlin feels some kinship with Wilson and wants to try to prove all the doubters wrong together.

If Tomlin is back it's a done deal that Wilson will be also. We all know this.

If they do they deserve to be in purgatory. Let him shop around and decide to match if you must

What an absolute joke. What happened to the owner who said “We’ve had enough of this, It’s time to get some wins. It’s time to take the next steps. There is some urgency here, for sure.” I guess that was a lie?

This has to be so confounding for you since having QB issues has been your go-to basis for excusing Tomlin and we are going to be stuck with the same QB because he's Tomlin's guy, same as we were stuck with Pickett because Tomlin wanted him.

A playoff win like baker got before he got that deal ok i can see it. However Atlanta literally saw Kirk last 1 season on his 3 year deal. Kirk and Baker fit Smiths heavy play action system RW doesn’t. He is severely limited and no other team would even consider him on a multi year deal

Not at 30 million a year. Let RW see what offers are out there and see if you want to match at most

The other possibility that we shouldn't really discount is Rodgers. That would be even worse than Wilson but if it's not Wilson, I'd guess Rodgers is the most likely guy to be here next year.

I think the thing people forget about the killer B's years was the defense was mostly horrible because of needed to reload. So many of the old guard retired from 2012-2015 and they team started rebuilding the defense in 2014. And the rebuild was coming to fruition in 2017, but we all know what derailed that. So failing with the killer b's needs an asterisks because how they failed IMO.
Yeah, it's tough when your best defensive player has a career ending injury. And then the mistakes as a result of that like trading up to select Bush.

Little Art went Hollywood. He cares a lot less about the bottom line than he does about how he, and the Steelers are perceived.
Wut.
