OT: The Pittsburgher Thread: Ploff wins?!? Fire Tomlin

Fields as QB1 will have folks here longing for the days of Russell Wilson. Fields can run no doubt, but he can't pass and his IQ is in the vicinity of his uniform number. As as 3rd & 1 running specialist he's fine, though way overpaid for such a limited role. But nobody in their right mind wants him in any bigger role.

I mean it will be something like 2 years, $20M total to keep the cap number low.

If Fields bombs, then we are in position to draft a legit QB in 2026.

I'm just saying how I think this is going to play out, not what I would do.

Trade watt and minkah. Maybe get a 1st and some 2nds out of it
I sincerely hope TJ asks to be traded. That would be the jolt this organization needs.

After sleeping on and the reactionary emotions from last night have worn off, I think it time to blow it up, strip it down to the studs. Fire all coaches, keep Danny Smith if you for want to, and trade anyone with value. This organization needs a change.

Agreed. If we fire Danny Smith, the bubblegum industry in Pittsburgh would absolutely collapse. :sarcasm:

I know it would never happen as it would specifically ruin the legacy of TJ and they aren't going to do that, but they really should put him in a situation to win. He deserves it in the worst way. Trading him would also return a Khalil Mack return.

I think Minkah is this generation of Steelers Maurkice Pouncey. His reputation is bigger than the actual results. Minkah finished as the 45th best safety in football. DeShon Elliot finished 25th according to PFF. Elliot was an outstanding pick up.

They just signed Tomlin so they aren't going to trade him, but I don't know if there is a more delusional franchise than the Steelers right now.

I know people mention the 8 year playoff drought, but I think only having playoff wins in 4 of 18 years is an even more startling stat. It's astounding this team has been content with the status quo for as long as it has.

They're not going to fire Tomlin, so it's not even worth talking about. I'm trying to think what they could do this off-season to make me optimistic and it would be a very mild optimism, but signing Fields, drafting WR and RB, and drafting a dart throw at QB in round 2/3 is probably the extent of what they could do. If they could pry McCarthy from Minnesota I'd be ecstatic but I think Vikings keep him. But like Watt and their 1 for McCarthy if they re-sign Darnold would be awesome.

“Optimistic” is like middle school vocabulary. Give this guy some credit. I see this comments like this often about Pickens. There’s no correlation between his behavior (childish) and his intelligence.

The only way the hurting stops in sports is when the team comes to the conclusion that they need to lose to win. That's how this is all set up

Decided to break down the last 6 playoff games similar to how he did the last 5 games they’ve lost and here we go:

Opps:
Total yds: 2,509yds / 418.1avg
Pass: 1,577yds / 262.8 avg
Rush: 932yds / 155.3 avg
Points: 230p / 38.3 avg
First D: 147f / 24.5 avg
TO: 2 forced turnovers

Steelers:
Total yds: 2,327yds / 387.8 avg (-182 total / -30.3 per game)
Pass: 1,947yds / 324.5 avg (+370 total / +61.7 per game)
Rush: 380yds / 63.3 avg (-552 total / -92 per game)
Points: 148p / 24.6 avg (-82 total / -13.7 per game)
First D: 136f / 22.6 avg (-11 total / -1.9 per game)
TO: 12 turnovers (-10 differential)

The inability to stop the rush and have a rushing game ourselves is inexcusable. Also the -10 in turnover margin

Decided to breakdown scoring by quarter as well:

1st qtr: Opps 73 / Steel 0 = -73 differential
2nd qtr: Opps 70 / Steel 47 = -23 differential
3rd qtr: Opps 40 / Steel 44 = +4 differential
4th qtr: OPPs 47 / Steel 57 = + 10 differential

What we can take away from this is that they are wholly unprepared in the first qtr (we all knew this) and the 2nd. In the 2nd half the game is already over and have to play catch up and get garbage points in the 4th. The fact they haven’t scored a single TD in the 1st qtr of a playoff game is pathetic.
