OT: The Pittsburgher Thread: Ploff wins?!? Fire Tomlin

Currently they own the 21st pick in the draft. Depending on what happens with Denver and Bucs they could end up with the 19th pick.

My guess is the Bucs win and Denver loses and they end up with the 20th pick. So start you mock drafts.

We want the Broncos to beat Bills and Bucs beat the Commanders tomorrow and we will pick 19th. Either or both loses, they pick ahead of us. So could be 21. What a kick in the balls...

The bottom line is this team hasn't drafted well enough over the past decade and didn't think long term about the QB position. I'm not a big fan of Tomlin and think they should move on but he's in QB purgatory and it's just not going to look good until they get out of it, regardless of the coach.

They traded up to 10 and 14 to get Bush and Jones who f***ing blow, but didn't make a move to get Nix before 12 in a year with a plethora of options. They traded for Minkah in a year where they were starting Duck Hodges, and had a chance to nab Jordan Love late in that first. They reach for Pickett in a year where Mayfield is hanging out on waivers, and again available in FA the off-season after. I'm also tired of the Khan artist bullshit, he's had 2 off-seasons now and the results are extremely mixed.

Now they need to turnover their QB room again, because it still blows, it's the worst QB class since Pickett, and there are half a dozen other teams itching for QBs. This team's season was over before it began, just like it will be next year too, and the year after that. And you can bring in Vrabel or Johnson or whatever but unless you're making shrewd moves or tanking for a year, QB is still not going to be taken care of.

Just sleepy organizational failure for a really long time, propped up artificially on the back of a HOF QB none of them drafted, and now floundering big-time.

Nix isn't any good either

They aren’t turning over the Qb room they will just go with fields spend on play makers and worry about QB in 26.

Yeah, Khan is incredibly overrated. He botched the WR situation, hasn't moved them any closer to finding a solution at QB (his most important job), and keeps handing more and more % of cap to 3 defensive players who convert at like 25% on 3rd down. I guess he got Patrick Queen who is...okay. Not better than okay.

I knew when Trice was a healthy scratch it was going to be rough on defense because DJ was going to have to play
On offense they are so limited by RW and lack of playmakers not much scheming its a jimmy and joes

I hope Holcomb comes back healthy and takes the dot away from Queen. They should walk away from Smith and Larry O on defense and need to decide what to do with Minka

If we won't have a QB before 26, I don't see what the point of Fitzpatrick is eating up $20M against the cap or whatever. Trade him for a 3rd + 5th so that his dead money is only on the books in 2025. Someone else can take over the designated "tackle guy 23 yards downfield" role.

300 yards rushing. what an embarrassment.

rooney has to ask this idiot why are we spending all this money on the defense. the highest paid in the league

with their read option.

why wouldn't you on 1 play (or more) just go smash into jackson? let him know this isn't going to be as easy a game as it was for him. a 15 yard penalty would be a slowing down for that offense vs. this D

what a damn joke

There are receipts. I am confident in mine.
Same, specifically remember a pretty good Tomlin rant of mine back around I want to say the game AB put a hell of a block on a backtracking corner allowing JuJu to score one of his 90+ yard TD's.

We've been in purgatory for almost a decade now. There are coaches who have been to Super Bowl's let alone won a single playoff game who've been fired since, hired elsewhere, and won another playoff game since the last time Tomlin has. The Steelers are the twilight zone of sports, where everything except winning a championship matters more to them.

The arguments against tearing the organization down for a proper rebuild from the copium huffing side of the fanbase never makes any logical sense to me. As if losing seasons are the worst thing in the world, when especially this city in particular knows what tanking for high draft picks has the potential to lead to. If the organization is truly as well run as they believe, a few bad years in a row won't turn them into the next Browns, Cardinals, or Panthers. And if it does, they were never going to win anything without attempting a real rebuild anyway.

I dunno if anyone else will agree with this but I'm fine with keeping the veterans around, if they're engaged, to help the next generation. Tear it down tanking is a risky business in the NFL and the main thing that needs to happen is the Steelers need to keep hitting on draft picks. More draft picks is good, but a better environment might be even better for the team.

And, well, not like I have a huge amount of faith in the coaches to provide it.

Not only why wouldn't you, but for years that was the claim by the local media for why Jackson's played so relatively poorly against us compared to the rest of the league. That has been the Steelers strategy against Jackson, that they'd just keep tackling him during rpo's regardless if he actually passed it off or not, which would eventually take it's physical tole on him.

If that claim was ever actually true, where it went tonight I guess is anyone's guess.

People vehemently disagreed at the time, but they should've never traded a 1st for him in the first place. Safety is not one of the 5 most important positions in the game, especially not worth trading actual assets for certainly. Free agency is another argument, but even then you don't prioritize safety above the line, edge or corners.

They decided they'd tackle Henry come what may instead. Jackson punished them every time they did and that when they decided they'd have to be a normal defence again, Henry just absolutely trampled them.

Of course, generally, the Steelers DL > the Ravens OL but my god was that not true tonight.
